2001 mitsubishi eclipse sunroof wont open but i can hear the motor

Mine did the same thing...took me 8 years to figure it out without having to pay for a repair at a shop. When it lifts the centimeter on its own, push up on glass with your hand with moderate pressure till it frees up, then just push the button towards the rear of the car and it should open the sunroof completely! How i now have to open mine but its awesome after 8 years and Ill work with that...

I have a 2000 Mitsubishi Eclipse (don't buy one EVER). The sunroof is stuck open and has been for a few weeks. I took it to the shop and had the fuses looked at. They were good. I just replaced th

Just as a possible solution just to close the roof, remove the motor and try an manually pull the roof closed, if it does'nt move it could possibly be the operating rack that pulls the foor back and forth, in which case it will require dismantling the roof assembly

My sunroof won't close

Some sunroofs have a open switch like the drivers window. You push it and the window will open automaticly. The button on your sunroof could be jammed so even though you can close it as soon as you release it, it will auto open on it's own.

1998 golf gti vr6 power sunroof doesn't close when i turn key at the door

Check your wires and fuses, I am having a similar problem myself as the windows open, but not the sunroof and this is a feature that VW had on most of these models with power locks, even my 96 Gti did it. I will repost with what fixed it ASAP.

My sunroof won't open unless I push it up? I pushback the switch and have to push up on the sunroof at the same time to get it to pop open (even though it does move a bit and tried to pop itself) and then...

What I find helpful is completely cleaning the area where it sits in the roof completely clean along with the seal. Then lightly grease the seal. Then do this once a month to open more smoothly and add a bit of waterproofing.
Also you can easily take out the sunroof switch and clean the gold contacts on it with rubbing alcohol and swabs from a PC cleaning kit. Just pull the switch housing off, unscrew the switch, find and press the release and the switch should come off. (it might take a little wiggle or two)
If this doesn't work then you might want to get a new sunroof seal. You should still keep it lubed, especially when you first buy it. Wipe down the outside nice and clean. Between the sun trying to dry it out and regular car washes it should be just fine.
This is my best advice. I'm no expert but I hope this helps. My maintenance tip above has improved my Eclipse sunroof function. I have a stock 2000 Eclipse.

2001 Eclipse GT Non-Functioning Sunroof

The sunroof motor is right above the open/close button inside the headliner. You are going to have to remove the headliner to replace it. Just a couple of screws and a connector from there.

My sunroof is leaking badly

AH! I had this problem. The drain spouts are in the rear of the car. When you open the hatchback, there's the panels, where the helper light is, you have to take this off to access the drain thing. It comes undone a lot in these cars.

Sunroof stuck open

The thump means the motor is good The linkage between the motor and the sunroof got either disconnected or broke off because it is a plastic link. you will need to remove the sunroof liner and find where the linkage is broken and replace. if you do it yourself maybe it will cost just a few bucks if you take it in they will charge you a minimum of $250.00
