Question about 2001 Chrysler PT Cruiser

I have a 2001 pt cruiser. The brake pedal goes

I have a 2001 pt cruiser. The brake pedal goes all the way to the floor and has little braking power. The fluid level is where it is supposed to be and the brake pads are virtually new. There is no puddling or leak of fluid anywhere, and everything seems fine. Pulled off the brake booster and found a valve that we think may only allow air in one way, but it will let you push air both ways. (pulled it off and blew in both ends) Thanks for all the help.

I have replaced 3 of 4 disc calipers on my pt cruiser. I have bleed brakes on all 4 calipers and have good brake pedal until I start the car. When I start the car the brake pedal goes to the floor.

Are you loosing brake fluid after you tighten that bleeder screw back? Your brake booster helps aid in the vacuum of the car - if you have an internal issue with that brake booster - you should check any vacuum lines coming off that booster. If you can answer with your year, make and model I can get you a more in depth answer - there are other things that can be causing your issues as well - from the master cylinder to other things. Good Luck. There's also a way to test that brake booster - do you have a pressure/vacuum gauge?

I have replaced 3 disc brake calipers on my 2001 pt cruiser. after bleeding all 4 brakes 3 times, I started the car and brake pedal goes to floor. is my brake booster shot?

Michael:

You must start bleeding the brakes at the wheel farthest from the master cylinder (usually the right rear), then the next farthest from the master cylinder, then the next, then the closest. If your master cylinder is at the left front of the car, start with the right rear, then the left rear, then the right front, then the left front. If you don't bleed the brakes in the correct order, you are just shifting the air in the lines from one line to another. Make sure that you close the bleeder before letting the brake pedal up, and the engine should not be running when you bleed the brakes... Make sure that the emergency brake is off. Make sure that the master cylinder does not run out of brake fluid at any time that you are bleeding the brakes.

Brake pedal goes to floor when engine running but is fine when engine off

bleed the brakes again starting at the longest line at the rear and work forward . The indication is still air in the lines.

How do I re-connect the brake switch to my 2006 PT cruiser? the brake tail light will not turn off.

Under the brake pedal, the brake switch should be adjustable to how far the pedal is from the switch before it engages. It sounds like it is out too far to where the pedal is continuously touching the switch.

Please let me know if you need further assistance.

What caused the gas pedal on my 2005 pt cruiser to go to the floor and accelerte on its own. i had to use brakes and turned the key off to stop the car to avoid an accident

Your problem will need to be diagnosed by Chrysler. Suggest that you contact your local dealer and Chrysler headquarters (1-800-992-1997) immediately to report this problem and seek assistance. Driving the vehicle before this problem is diagnosed and repaired may be extremely dangerous, but if you do experience the problem again, shift the transmission into NEUTRAL instead of cutting off the ignition. Shutting the vehicle off causes you to lose both power steering and power brakes, making the vehicle more difficult to control and stop.

I can't get brakes on my 2001 dakota ,the pedal goes right to the floor with little brakes. I've changed the master cly. and no difference. I've bled the system.there is something wrong with the front...

did you bleed the master cyl. before or during installation? bleed brakes in proper order?RR LR RF LF? does it have a power booster between master cyl.& firewall?check for vacuum to booster.when ABS isn't working you should still have brakes.suspect power booster diaphram.

Brakes spongy after shop replaced rotors braked pads on 2001 buic

Sounds like air is still in the brake lines, the air sound that you hear is the power assist, but the brake pedal needs to be "high and hard".

if the pedal goes to the floor, that is not good. Sometimes, when pumping brakes for bleeding purposes, the master cylinder gets damaged, as the piston goes past it's normal "travel zone" and gets damged on deposits.....

Now, with that being said, if everything was perfect, brakes are typically not as firm after replacement, due to differences in new pads/shoes and old rotors and drums. Pedal to the floor, however, is never okay.

EMERGENCY BRAKE PEDAL GOES DOWN TO THE FLOOR WHEN ENGAGED

sounds like you have a worn set of park break shoes. they are located inside /behind the read rotors. if you remove the rotor and the shoes look fine then you can adjust them with the little star gear located on the bottom of the brake shoes.

Brake lights will not turn off 2006 PT Cruiser

Its hard to know what could be causing this, but in my chrysler there is a little button right at the top end of the brake pedal. Way in the front. You should regognicze it, if you follow the brake pedal stem up. Check to see if it is jamed, or shorting there. That would be my best bet.
