Question about 1990 Toyota Camry

Battery light and brake light will come on together and stay on for some time then eventually go off. Checked master cylinder and battery, everything seems to be ok. This has been going on for the past few months.

2005 Camry. Having difficulty when I apply brakes. Pedal goes almost to floor. Eventually stops. Had brake pads, drums and calipers checked, they seem fine. Any suggestions ?


Low brake pedal almost always indicates a compromised hydraulic system. Check you brake fluid level. If it is ok and you haven't had anything replaced in the brake hydraulics system lately, such as a wheel cylinder or brake caliper, then the primary suspect is the master cylinder.

Brake lights stay on, 2002 Honda Accord EX 4 cylinder


The brake lights work regardless of the ignition switch. There is normally a switch mounted under the dashboard, that presses against the brake pedal hangar. Normally, when you press the brake pedal, this switch loses contact with the hangar, and the brake lights come on. If the switch gets broken or out of adjustment, the brake lights can stay on at all times. This will eventually kill the battery. Readjust or replace the brake light switch.

What does it mean when battery light and brake light flicker at the same time


On some cars the circuits are wired together.
A battery problem would be where the alternator is not charging the battery when the engine is running.
A brake problem would be where the parking brake is on or the brake fluid in the master cylinder is low.

I have changed the rear rotors and brake pads, bled the brakes after putting itall back together. Seemed to have brakes but then shortly thereafter they are like a sponge. Last time I tried bleeding them...


Hi, bleeding your rear brakes with engine running, you should get enough pressure out of the lines to squirt 3-4 feet. In other words, good pressure. If all you get is a trickle, you probably have a bad master cylinder. Just because its full of fluid, does not mean the seals arent shot. If you have bled them in order, left rear,right rear,left front,right fornt and have bled them enough to get fresh fluid out of each one without achieving good solid pressure at all wheels, replace your master cylinder. There is a proportioning valve, but usually it will affect only one wheel when going out, usually the left rear.
Brake pedal height comes from the rear brakes, so if you have bad pressure there, you will never get a good pedal. Eventually with a bad master, your brakes will go completly out..Mike

My ex wife put power steering fluid in the brake master cylinder and drove the car across town..... what should i do


Immediately **** out the contents of the master cylinder, replace with fresh brake fluid, and flush the system.

Flushing can be done by doing a good old fashioned manual bleeding consisting of one person opening and closing the bleeder screws and one person working the brake pedal or many shops will have a brake flush machine that will make quick work of the job.

The P/S fluid in the brake system will cause the seal to bloat and eventually fail. We see several cars every year that this happens to. If its caught early a system flush will take care of it. If ignored everything gets replaced (master cylinder, brake hoses, calipers, and wheel cylinder). We have had a few over the years that where ignored for so long that the brakes eventually locked up.

Abs light stays on and no braking power


have you checked the master cylinder ? As this will cause the ABS lite to come on if it s bypassing inide. hope this helps as I have seen it many times. Good luck and remember to rate all solutions you get. Thanx
P.S. If you change the master cylinder remember to bench bleed it and be sure to transfer the rubber " O " ring from the old one to the new one ( located on the back side o the master cylinder ). Or you will have lots ofpedal and no stopping ower.

95 sub emerg/parking brake light will not turn off


Only two things should normally activate the light:

Parking Brake engaged switch.

Low Fluid level in master cylinder.

I don't think you did any work to the Parking brake, but you should check it to be sure.

I believe that you would have double checked the fluid level, but please check it again.

Other things that could activate the light would be a worn or leaking master cylinder; improper brake fluid type; a damaged brake booster diphragm .

Also, does the light always stay on, or only when you apply the brakes?
