Check that the Ignition switch is providing +12V output on the start output control wire when switch held in start position,
If so, check if this control signal is arriving at the starter motor engage solenoid - if not arriving, look for faulty connector/fuse or relay in this control circuit.

To ensure starter is ok, briefly connect +12v from the battery to the starter solenoid control directly - if starter motor ok, it should then run.

Are you gettiing power to the starter when you try to start it? If not,....more than likely its a relay or wiring issue.

2000 pontiac bonneville wont start

It sounds like a bad connection somewhere, check the battery cable connections for corrosion and tightness, both ends. It could be the starter, starter solenoid, starter relay, neutral safety switch or ignition. Try moving the shift lever to the "N" position and see if that helps. When you say you have a dead key, do you mean you have no dash lights, (oil pressure light, battery light, things of that nature) no clicking, no nothing?

The security system has been activated call the dealer to getthe deatils on how to reset it, normally you pull the security fuse for 30 seconds to restet it. if that does not work call the dealer and they can help you.

My 98 Bonneville won't start.

Have the battery checked for voltage and amperage. A dead cell in a battery will have power but nothing to turn the starter. If its not the battery try replacing the starter.

Car won't start. starter doesn't click, I can't get it to start by jumping the starter. the starter is getting power from battery but not from ignition. what could be wrong?

the problem is the passkey security system has locked the starter out out, try this procedure, if this doesn't work u will need to have the dealer test the system.

1) Put the key in the ignition and turn to the "ON" position. Leave it that way for 10 minutes. After 10 minutes turn the key and take it out. Repeat this process (2) more times (3 times, 30 minutes total) This should reset the passlock system to recognize your key.

Tapping the starter does not always work. I would check all the connections on the battery and starter. If these are good replace the starter. Don't forget the grounds.
