Question about 2006 Dodge Grand Caravan

1 Answer

Main bolt for alternator has been removed.

I am trying to replace the EGR valve on my 2006 Dodge Grand Caravan. I have removed the main bolt for the alternator so I can get to the lower bolt on the EGR valve but, the alternator will not move down. Am I missing something or does alot of downward force need to be put on the alternator?
Also, will the engine code clear after replacing the EGR valve? Or, at least after a certain number of hot/cold cycles.
Thanks in advance.

Jeremos, are you saying that I should be able to replace this without moving the alternator with a 1/4" 10 mm swivel?

You cannot clean them purchase a new one and pull the old one out of the valve cover, and disconnect the hose that runs to it. install the hose on to the new egr with a new worm clamp and push the other end into the valve cover. should take about 10 minutes.

IT IS LOCATED ON THE FRONT OF THE FRONT CYLINDER HEAD(BELT END) OF ENGINE..JUST ABOVE ALTERNATOR..2 BOLTS HOLD IT TO HEAD,A METAL TUBE COMES OFF IT..1 ELECTRICAL CONNECTOR..MORE LIKELY ELECTRICAL SIDE OF VALVE IS DEFECTIVE(SOLENOID)

Replacing the EGR valve on 2004 caravan 3.3 L

This is how I do it, maybe it will work for you too. Remove the top bolt. Using a prybar, roll the egr backwards towards the engine. This roll is also in the direction the bottom bolt has to turn to come out. From the new angle you can use a wrench or 1/4 drive wobble on it. When it gets back to the point you can't get the wrench on it, use needlenose pliers on the threaded end to finish the removal. Going back is a little tricky, start the bottom bolt and run it in almost all the way and then roll the egr forward to start the top bolt. Tighten the bottom the best you can first. Tighten the top bolt last, this puts more pressure against the bottom bolt making it tighter. Otherwise you have to remove the alternator.

the egr valve is located on front cylinder head, just above the alternator..there is a plug and a metal tube coming from it..remove tube on both ends..unplug connector..2 bolts that hold on are fairly tight and lower bolt is a tight fit at alternator..1/4"drive 10mm socket ground down works well..make sure you disconnect battery while you are changing valve..sometimes code will reset even after you replace egr valve..valve available at dodge dealer..get a new tube gasket as well

I need to replace the EGR valve.

No need to remove or move the alternator. You can get on the 10mm bolt with a short 1/4" socket and ratchet. Take the EGR tube off first, be careful not to lose the tube to EGR valve gasket. I usually use anti-seize when I put the EGR valve back on. That would be the mount bolts for the valve and the tube.
