The hood on my 99 sunfire is closed shut and won't

The cable is probably broken and not connected to the latch. There are two latches, a primary which the cable is connected, and the secondary or safety.
You'll have to try to access the latch from under the car going up between the bumper and the radiator. You may need a body shop to do it.

C320 hood release handle won't pop the hood

I don't think there is a day that goes by in the shop where we don't get at least one vehicle that is doing this. Just use two people. One to pull the cable release and the other to slap the hood with their hand and tell it to cooperate. Usually, just a little "jarring" with the cable pulled will get it to pop up.

I have a 98 eddie bauer ford explorer I can not puss the hood down and make it latch, how do I fix that problem fix it so it latches down?

the lever for the release cable is probably rusted up. If you look down into the latch you should see the cable attached to a lever. It may help to have somebody pull the hood release to help you find it. Spray the hood latch with some penetrating lube and push the lever back with a small long screwdriver. Be careful not to dislodge the cable from the lever. Pull on the hood release and if necessary push on the lever with the screwdriver. Continue lubing, pulling and pushing until everything works on its own.

How do i open the hood.

there should be a lever that is on the bottom edge of dash that is under the steering wheel along the trim. if the handle is broken you can use pliers to grab the cable and pull it to get the hood to realse. if you found all that and i seems to work ok then when pulling the release lever have a friend hit or shake the hood to get it to pop up a little so that you can open it all the way.

How do i fix the hood latch on my 1999 Ford Explorer Sport? It used to be difficult(hard to pull) to use but it would open my hood. Sometimes I would even have to hit the hood with the palm of my hand to...

you need to adjust the latch assy. Once you get it open, observe where it is striking the bar there will be a couple bolts you can loosen and move the latch. may take 2-3 attempys to get it right. Also lubricate with WD-40

98 explorer hood latch does not work

Hello.
  • Unattach the release handle from the dash and disconnect the cbale and get someone to use the palms of there hands to tap on the hood while pulling the cable with pliers.
  • If this fails then you will have to go through the grill and do the same at the latch
  • If this fails then you will need to remove the bolts holding the latch to the radiator support to get the hood open.

How to get the hood to latch properly?

if you were to lower the hood gently until it touches the car and let it latch, that would be the secondary, if you were to drop the hood from about a foot from the car, that will engage the primary latch... once latched, you should not be able to budge the hood until you pull the hood release

it can be unbolted, but it sounds like your primary latch could be giving you problems. have some one play with the hood release (pushing and pulling) while you release secondary latch and pull up on hood. if you get it open spray all moving parts with wd40.

    Hood release problem

    Hi JP,

Unfortunately no. There are two things to try though.

If when you pull the release it feels as though the latch is releasing (without the hood rising), try pushing the hood down (relatching), giving it a sharp rap right above the latch or prying the hood up.

If when you pull the release nothing happens:
Get a flashlight and a long set of needlenose pliers.
Look through the front grill and locate the latch. You should be able to find the release cable. Grab it with the needle nose and pull it away from the latch. You'll hear it release.

    Be patient, you'll get it.
