Question about 1997 Chrysler Sebring

1 Answer

How do you remove the dash board around the gauges etc. I am trying to get at the circuit board that controls the tact and the odometer read out. One of the sites says there is just a loose solder joint on the board and to resolder it and that should solve the problem. It is a 1997 chrylster sebring convertible.

Not 100% sure on that but normally the trim that surrounds the cluster will pull off, if no screws or buttons covering screws are obvious, then you 'll have access to screws holding cluster in.

hello Sylvia i think you have had your dash board taken out at some
stage previous to your owning it, there is a big electrical connector
that hooks up to the printed circuit board behind your dash. you will
need to get a techy to pull off the plastic masks around your dash
and unscrew the speedo console. we used to get alot of this fault
here in New Zealand when sellers of vehicles were clocking the
speedo's to show a lower mileage reading on the odometer, very
nasty.

2005 explorer sport trac instrument cluster and odometer intermittent failure?

Pull the instrument cluster out of the dash check all the connectors to it for loose pins and also take a look at the printed circuit on the back of the panel, look for any obvious problems. More than likely just pulling the connectors and reinserting them several times may cure this problem.

The gauges stop working at times on the dash board. The car starts fine and runs fine. After a while depends on time from 1 to 10 minutes they will start reading again. Odometer, speedometer, gas gauge.

This should do it for you.

There has been issues with the solder joints on the PIN connection to the gauge cluster. The issue being that over time thru vibration and such one of these solder joints will fail (happened on or 1999) you can repair this though. You will have to remove all of the trim from around the driver's side dash board, this will include the trim towards the center of the dash. Once these pieces are remove you'll need to remove the gauge panel (I believe (4) allen head screws) carefully bring the panel and release the wire clip from it. Looking at the back of the panel, where the plug was, carefully with plenty of light look for one of the pins to have a failed solder joint. It will be very faint however the failed joint will be a fine dark line around the pin. To correct use a small soldering iron and reheat this solder until it wants to flow, let it cool and reassemble.
I hope this may have helped,

Tom

PS: Why I do not know but often when this happens the ABS light will come on.

Everthing on my dash (speedometer,odometer,fuel

Blown Fuse or fried Circuit board. Take to a local AutoZone, Advance, Murray's, O'reillys or a similar part house for them to check the wiring. I'm assuming the van does not use a mechanical Speedometer or Fuel Gauge.

On the plus side, with no speedometer, your indicated odometer mileage does not increase. Just keep your speed down and your tank full. Kidding, just kidding.

My 1999 cherokee sport says ''no bus''. I have no gas gauge, speedometer, etc. I have already removed the instrument panel and thoroughly cleaned the terminals and plugs that connect to the back of the...

it is not the plugs.if you remove the printed circuit board, which is double sided, you will see that the solder joints on the back of the plugs where they are soldered have cracks in them.resolder the plugs.

1996 Dodge Neon - All dash gauges work intermittently

The problem is broken solder connections on the instrument panel circuit board. Now here's how to fix it: Lift up & remove dash pad/gauge cluster trim. Remove 4 phillips screws to remove gauge cluster. Turn gauge cluster over, remove 6 T15 Torx screws, & remove black paper. Remove 5 more T15 screws for the circuit board & 4 T15 screws at the wiring harness connectors. Disconnect the gray odometer cable; just push in the little pin and slide it out. After all the screws are out, gently lift up on the circuit board; you may need to lift up on one side at a time. BE VERY CAREFUL! After you remove the circuit board, flip it over (you will see the dash lights). There are two areas with 10 soldered pins (two rows of 5 pins) & a black dot above & below it. If you look at these pins closely, you may see the broken solder. Apply heat from a soldering iron to these pins; you shouldn't have to add more solder, but you may. As it heats, the old solder will become shiny & melt. Remove heat. This should be enough to repair those connections. Look at the solered pin; if you see a crack in the solder around the pin, heat it up again & apply a small amount of solder. After you reheat/resolder those pins, let it cool. Then reassemble the gauge cluster. It sounds tougher than it really is. Just be gentle & work carefully. You'll be fine, & your gauges will work again.

97 Plymouth Grand Voyager dash board probleme!! Please HELP

With all those problems, it is most likely a body control module gone bad. You would have to take it to a Chrysler dealer to verify.
