Question about 1996 Lexus GS 300
I was driving, came to a stop light, on the green light i gave it some gas and it accelerated very slow and the car doesnt seem to switch gears, i go 40 mph tops for fear of breaking something, BUT when i turn off the engine for a few minutes it goes back to normal for a while then i have to pull over and repeat. what seems to be the problem? and what kind of cost am i looking at to repair?
Those g300s have problems with their mass air flow meters, which gives the same problems that your describing. It's located on the intake tube that runs to the motor. this is the most likely cause, but there are about 30 different problems it could be. But the mass air flow see how much air is coming into the motor and compensates with fuel to run. but when that fails there is a great loss in power. But I would start there. It's hard to be certain just talking on the internet. But that is where i would put my money. Hope this helps
