Oil leak on back driver side motor in a 1994 dodge caravan


Place a piece of white paper/cardboard on the ground below where the leak is coming from soon after the engine is turned off. This should help you locate where exactly the oil is dripping from, and should help identify what is leaking. If the oil is black/brown/gold, it's probably engine oil. If it's reddish/brown, it's probably transmission fluid. If it's clear, it may be brake fluid or power steering fluid (from the rack/pinion). Check the fluid levels for whatever you determine it may be. If it's engine oil, you may have leaking valve cover gaskets or a leaking rear seal on the engine. If it's transmission fluid, you may have bad transmission cooler lines or leaking from axle seals. Check the master cylinder and brake lines if it's brake fluid, and check the rack/pinion if it's power steering fluid.

Do you have to remove brake lines when you change the brake booster


Check rear of Master Cylinder--If wet likely Master Cylinder Leaking and Booster Damaged. They Should be replaced as a mated pair. (for warranty) and brake lines removed and system bled.

Brake fluid leak on rear drum


If you have no evidence of leaking outside the drum, most likely your brake piston is leaking or the drive shaft seal is leaking. Pull off the drum and look for the piston which spreads the two brake pads normally situated at the top. Inspect for leaks. If the fluid is thin, it is most likely brake fluid. If it is heavier like oil and really stinks, it is gear oil from a leaking seal.

Brake fluid leaking from left rear wheel


You have a leaky wheel cylinder. When you replace the wheel cylinder, you will also need to replace the contaminated brake shoes. Use plenty of brake cleaner (solvent) to remove all of the oil and have an assistant help you bleed the brake lines.

I am leaking oil and need to replace master cylinder


Well the master cylinder should have brake fluid in it, not oil. Oil belongs in the oil pan on the bottom of the crankcase. On a car that old it is not unusual for it to leak, often times leaking in more than one place. Cost to repair versus benefit of no leaks has to be considered. Gaskets around the valve covers and oil pan are likely places to find leaks. Working on brakes requires some knowledge, can be dangerous to work on them yourself, replacing the master cylinder is usually straightforward disconnect the brake lines, remove the nuts holding it onto the vacuum boost, bolt the new one in place, reconnect the brake lines. Then it must be bled and therein lies your lament.

Changing 4 calipers and there is no oil com out when try to bleed


The master cylinder supplies the pressure to the brake fluid that travels between the maste brake cylinder resevoir and the brake caliper pistons (through the brake lines. If the master cylinder fails there will be insufficient compression of the brake fluid to make the calipers operate as designed. Leaks in the brake lines and/or cylinders is a possibility, and unrelated to functionality of the master cylinder. Also, pistons located in the brake calipers can form a corrosion ring on their inside walls if there is breakdown in the brake fluid or moisture that gets into the lines. Operating the vehicle when there is insufficient brake fluid in the master cylinder resevoir can also lead to air getting into the brake lines, causing bad working brakes. Air compresses more than brake fluid, and the master cylinder isn't designed to compress air in the brake lines. Sounds like a bad case of "lack of maintenance", as opposed to bad advice from the mechanics. That said, there's no excuse for bad installation. But, it's tough to improperly install a brake line since they are nothing more than hollow metal tubes. There should be no rubber connectors installed in the brake lines. When bleeding the brake lines one must remove all of the trapped air before you will see any fluid appear. If the valves in the master cylinder are not properly operating the master cylinder will not allow the brake fluid to get into the brake lines.
