A shorted fuel pump is the common cause of this problem, remove the fuel pump relay under the hood in the power distribution box (it is marked) and see if the short stops when u crank the engine, if it does replace the fuel pump and the fuel pump connector, it this doesn't stop the short the wiring harness has shorted most likely to the engine or chassis, move the wiring harness around to the engine and see if short stops, pay close attention to where the harness touches brackets or engine parts, that is where it rubs through and shorts to ground.

This is the starter motor/solenoid probably bad. Check the connections down on the starter motor and look it over. Could be the starter motorhas failed and when the solenoid kicks power to it when you turn the key to start, the fuse blows.

MY 2001 GMC YUKON XL WILL NOT START OR TURN OVER. I REPLACE A NEW STARTER AND BATTERY, WHAT ELSE NEED TO BE DONE. ITS SEEMS LIKE ITS AN ELECTRICAL PROBLEM.

A mechanic would check for voltage at the starter, the neutral safety switch, and the key switch. Then check the battery cables and ground connections.

2001 gmc yukon xl key in ignition won't turn to start at all.

The tumblers in the ignition lock may be seized, try cleaning it out first with a small spray of WD40 and try the spare ignition keys. The keys it self may be too worn down for the tumblers in the lock and if you have lots of other keys on your key chains, this will promote the lock to wear out quicker. Good luck and hope this helps and try turning the steering where back and forth as you try to turn the ignition key.

Check for moiosture or corrosion around the tank sender unit connections- if all ok there, you may need a new fuel sender unit.

You have a dead short somewhere. Star by checking wires for signs of burning, soot melted insulation, paying close attention to red or pink wires. Start down by the starter and work your way back to the fuse box. Also check around all connections, especially any that go to the body or frame from the engine. It can be a tedious job and you may have to unwrap wire harness's to find it. If you've done any electrical work under the dash, like new stereo, check that as well.
These problems are usually under the hood or anywhere wires pass through the firewall. It should be a fairly thick,#10, wire. Most of your wireing is #14-16. Hope this helps.

I had an 2001 or 2003 envoy that did that and the only solution was to disconnect the battery for about 5 minutes so the computer would reset.
