1992 nissan maxima gxe anolog dash I am thiniking this might be the speddometer cabel gear in the auto tranny it only acts up after I drive the car for about 30 minute and then works fine next morning after cool the speedo will. work off and on intermideitly after it warmas up the pain also is the cruise will not work after the speedo acts up , I have a haynes manuel but , I can believe I canot find the speedo cable coming thought the firewall and where it attaches into the tranny , I am a pretty experienced do it your selfer , guess i need to crawl under on my bad back and find the cable from the back of the meter in the dash and trace it form there Any helf or advice would be appreciated thanks and all the best wishes Scott
It doesn't have a speedo cable. Even though it is an analog dash it is driven digitally from a pick up sensor on the trans. If you look at the back of the trans from up top above the engine oil filter and back toward the drivers fender a bit you will see the round sending unit with wires comming off of it. It may be going opening up when it gets hot. Otherwise you've got a bad instrument cluster. That same sensor feeds the Cruise Control via the instrument cluster.
