replaced plugs cap rotor, wires only have about 10000 miles on them. when it does start and the engine is cold it lodes up and backfires when it finally warms up it runs fine.

1997 350 Vortec engine. How do I line up everything to be able to change coil inside distributor?

Unless you have some experience with resetting a distributor you may not want to tackle this job. However, the way to do it is take the dist. cap off and place a mark on the dist. base and the firewall so after replacing the pickup coil you can align both marks to drop the dist in proper time for the engine. If the engine backfire once you have done this then the dist. is not in the right position or a half a tooth off. The idea is it should not backfire after the repair. You must also be sure the oil pump shaft in the engine is not moved during the time the dist. is being repaired. Hope this helps.

1997 Blazer 4.3 has a DTC P0300 only can be driven after warm up,but still misses most of the time. it passed E check when not missing and idle is smooth. have replaced all ignation parts. the EGR valve...

this code indicates multiple miss fire, which is not just one cylinder doing it.if this motor has a vortec motor in it the problem could be the injectors not operating properly or the lines to the injectors may be leaking into the intake causing a rich condition.it could be the egr valve stuck open just a bit causing a vacume leak and rough running.it could even be a problem with the pickup coil in the distributer or a cracked magnet.the ignition module could also cause the problem.

I have a 1997 chevy cavalier that starts fine when its been sitting overnight, runs good while cold. after i shut the car off it won't start back up, it will fire up and then quit right away.

you stated after you ran the car for a while, then shut if off, and wouldn't restart, how long was the car running before it wouldn't restart, could be coil problem, doesn't sound like plugs or wires or car wouldn't run fine at 1st like you stated, you could also check the condition of the battery, it could have a week cell in it and while sitting overnight, it will recharge itself some , but not completely, have the battery tested , if it is the battery, and you replace it, and if it takes care of your problem, you have solved it, if not have alternator checked out.

1997jimmy cuts off and starts back up when its been sitting for a while. replace iginition modulator, fuel filter, and fuel pump don't know what it is

Here's one thing you can do, carry little gas with you and when it cuts off, pour some gas down the intake manifold or throttle body. If it starts you probably have a fuel problem. If it doesn't start you most likely have a ignition problem. Using a test light check for Power going to your coil or coils. To rule out the ignition switch. But if I were to take a guess, ignition coil or coil wire, and if it has a distributor, ignition module pickup and rotor. Good luck.

My 97 blazer s 10 4.3 vortec has no spark.have replaced ignition switch, disributor cap and rotor. replaced the brain and coil. have checked all in line fuses, fuse box and replaced the ignition...

there should be no action on the dash even with the key off.
problems like this are most of the time related to an extra starting system or after market alarm system being installed wrong or the wrong system was installed.
if anything like that has been done remove them back to like new before you do anything else.

'96 Chevy Tahoe won't start

i had similar problem. hard to start in morning but once started, would start everytime until next morning. i changed fuel pump, filter, fuel pressure regulator, coil, cap, rotor, pickup coil, battery. i was finally told the '96 had a recall on the fuel injection assemby. i changed that out with the new mpf system and it solved the problem. runs like a striped ape. hope this helps.

Engine is pulling down when sitting at an idle

I had this problem in my 99 zr2. Turned out that it was the mass air flow sensor. I cleaned it with some carb cleaner and the problem went away for a little while but I ended up replacing it later on. Its a pretty inexpensive part and a very easy fix. It just disconnects from the air intake tube with a couple of hose clamps and two snap on wire connections.
