Question about Chrysler Sebring

Open Question

It's a 2001 4 door LXi With optional stick (you know where its an automatic but then you can move it all the way down and shift it manually if you wanted to) Its making this weird sound sometimes, not all the time and i can't reproduce it. It just kinda does it when it wants. anyway it sounds like if maybe you put a stick in a box fan but it sounds like its comming from right in front of the passenger side Firewall( piece of metal between the inside and engine compartment). Its consistant with the rpm's when given gas, eg. it gets faster (not louder) with the rise in rpm's and cuts out when the rpm meter reaches 2000. I did this to eliminate the fan for heatcold and any of the suspension like if maybe there was a rock or stick in the rim or something. Does anyone know what this might be? I don't want to have to pay someone to tell me what it is and then again to fix it lol.

How do I relplace gear shift?

If you have a stick shift ( floor shift) remove the boot around the gear stick and the insulation on the floor to reveal the 4 bolts that hold the shift turret on to the top of the box. Undo the bolts and lift the gear lever assembly out of the gear box.

Where is the automatic transmission stick to check the fluid?

Is you Passport automatic or manual? If it is manual (stick-shift), there is no dip stick. There is only one on auto transmission. If you have an automatic and not a manual, please let me know, and I will try to help further.
Thanks!! EJ Kudelka

2001 VW Beetle with manual transmission will not shift into reverse; linkage out of adjustment? Other?

This may or may not be helpful. You have to physically push the stick down into the floor in order to access reverse. Then you can move it left and up. Straight down into the rubber boot first. It will pop up when you shift into a forward gear. Good luck

It's fuel infected and it has a vacuum leak, most likely a PCV valve that is stuck open, I've seen a few now. Replace the PCV valve 1st, if that doesn't fix it, start looking for a hose that has come off.

My 1997 seabring had a high pitched noise while

From your discription, sounds to me something vital in your transmission has went out. Pull the dip stick and smell the trans. oil if it smells burnt chanses are you need a rebuild or replacement. Even if the oil dosent smell burnt, with that kind of millage and the shuddering when it shifted leads me to that conclusion.

The battery in my 2006 pontiac vibe went dead. I recharged it; however, the setting for the door locks changed. It now unlocks automatically when I turn the car off instead of when I put the car in park. I...

The 2006 Vibe no longer has that feature. It was discontinued after 2005. I have the 2005 so I know how to change it. If your 2006 is able to change then here are the directions from my 2005.
Programmable Automatic
Door Locks
If you have an automatic transaxle, your vehicle is equipped with an auto door lock/unlock feature which enables you to program your power door locks.
Your vehicle left the factory programmed to Mode 4.
The following is a list of the available programming options:
Mode 1: All doors and liftgate lock when the shift lever is moved out of PARK (P) with the ignition on and all doors and liftgate closed. There is no automatic door unlocking.
Mode 2: No automatic door locking or unlocking.
Mode 3: All doors and liftgate lock when the shift lever is moved out of PARK (P) with the ignition on and all doors and liftgate closed. All doors and liftgate unlock when the shift lever is moved to PARK (P) with the ignition on.
Mode 4: All doors and liftgate lock when the shift lever is moved out of PARK (P) with the ignition on and all doors and liftgate closed. All doors and liftgate unlock when the ignition switch is turned from ON to ACC or to LOCK.
To change the mode you are in, do the following:
1. Set the interior lamp control dial to the door position.
See Interior Lamps Control on page 3-16.
2. Move the shift lever into PARK (P) and close all doors and liftgate.
3. Turn the ignition to ON.
4. Within five seconds after the ignition is turned to ON, press and hold the power door lock switch in
the lock position for about five seconds.
5. The interior lamp will flash to indicate that the mode has been changed. For example, if the lamp flashes once, the function has been changed to Mode 1.
If the battery is disconnected or run down, the mode is changed to the initial mode which is Mode 4.
