First, the battery light on means the alternator isn't working. The alternator isn't working, because it isn't turning. If the belt is intact, the engine is running and the pulleys aren't turning then maybe something has locked up? If that's the case then the belt should be screeching and smoking. My guess is that it is broken under where you can't see it or it has somehow jumped off the motor pulley. Turn the engine off, let everything cool and pull on the belt. It's liable to come right off..
This car MIGHT still be under warranty? Have you noticed if the brake lights are stuck on all the time? This sometimes happens when the switch on the pedal sticks or pops out of place. Something might be draining the battery. A power seat switch can do it. I'd take it to Ford and ask them if it's under warranty or service bulletin. They might fix it for free and at least they can tell you what's wrong. don-ohio (:^)
This is not a solution..I just want to see if you had these symptoms..Mine did the same thing tonight(9-22-10, '98 Olds Cutlass) I went to the gas station..got back in the car to start it, and it sounded like the battery was dead (clicking when turning the ignition) and then all my gauges started moving around very quickly. The gas gauge went all the way around and is also stuck under then pin. I tried to jump it, but no luck. Did this happen to you and did you figure out how to fix it? Thanks.
Just try to keep the gas and drive for at leat 15 min HWY if possible. Yes, it will turn off if you let go the gas, but it will restart and stay on as long as you press on gas. Just keep on driving and the computer will readjust the emission inputs and will get back to normal.
yea sounds like u need a starter i think on that model its located behind engine under intake manifold u have to jack car up high to work easier there's 2 bolts holding it in and if i remeber correctly 1 is tough to get at if iam wrong on location just follow positive cable from battery and you will find it
I think your battery is weak, where as it doesn't have the cranking amps when you first go to start it. What i would recommend is doing a load test on the battery to tell for sure if it is good or not. If you have an advance auto or auto zone near by, they offer that service for free, and if need be they will install your new battery for you.
