Question about Mazda Protege
Lighter plug wont work
There is a thick wire right behind the plug that is burned out. Your fuse in the box is likely intact. You will have to remove the center console and then take out the entire plug ( which is somewhat tricky) and get a replacement for it.

Sometimes there is a seperate fuse for just the lighter in the wiring behind the lighter socket you will have to either remove the socket or find the wiring under the dash to see if their is a fuse and replace it if it is worn or even possibly the connections to the socket have worn or become disconnected
