Check engine light comes on and off, these are indication that there is some error code stored in your vehicles ECM. The engine module computer needs to be scanned. These will give the code and as per the error code the further problem can be detected and confirmed. The engine light indicator blinks or remains steady on dash when engine computer noticed any problem with any engine electrically operated components.

You need a tool that plugs in to the computer connector under the dash above your left foot. The most popular brand is Peake, but there are several brands that will work. This tool will reset the oil change light, the inspection light, and the check engine light, and will read out engine control system error codes.

If you have an OBD-II diagnostic tool, and the problem has been cleared, plug the tool in to your car and there is an option on the tool interface to delete error codes. That will shut off the check engine light. If you do not have a tool or cannot borrow one, you can rent it from an autozone or have a mechanic do it (at a price...). Hope that helps!

you need to use an OBDII scan tool that will read any "error" codes and give you the system that will be causing the check engine light to come on. this tool will also allow you to erase the code after you have read it. write the code down as you may have to pinpoint exactly what part may have failed and needs replacing. something as simple as a loose gas cap will cause the check engine light to come on. it could be any of a dozen different emission or ignition sensors that may be bad depending on the error code. all 1996 and newer vehicles sold in the US will have the OBDII system and standard diagnostic/data link connector,which is usually under the driver side of the dash, to plug the scan tool into to read the DTC's(diagnostic trouble codes).

Disconnect battery for 3 or 4 hrs or bring it to Autozone or Advanced auto parts and ask them to read the code then ask them to erase it.

Sounds like a bad PCM.A dealer may be able to reflash the thing but not certain.Do a web search for the above code and you'll get all kinds of info. Good Luck
