I have a 1998 Audi A6 that I just had some exhaust work done on (fixed some leaks in the exhaust at the flexible joint). Within 100 miles of driving it the check engine light came on which tells me there is something wrong with the emissions. I kept driving it because I had to get home, but then off and on the car would loss power and studder as I accelerated. Is this a problem with the cat. converter or something else.
What I would suggest is taking the car to an autoparts store and have them scan the computer for any fault codes that it has stored. Most parts stores will do the scan for free. That should eliminate the need for speculation. It could be an emission related problem or it could be something totally unrelated. Better to get the codes to narrow down what the computer has noted. Hope this helped and best wishes.

I have a 1998 Audi A3 with 1 working remote key however, the valet key will not start the car. After I tried to reprogram the valet key, the yellow car/key warning symbol BLINKS on the dash BUT it will start 1-10 times, no problem. But as soon as I lock and unlock the doors, it wont start again. It just dies!

DearSirs I have an Audi A6 and I am trying hard to find a solution to an apparent inherent problem these cars have. The ubiquitous instrument cluster problem! My particular Audi A6 shows the ABS warning light on constantly when there is no problem with the ABS system. I have visited many Audi ?chat room? and this is a common problem throughout the world not just with the ABS warning light but others such as incorrect petrol gauge and speedometer readings. No one seems to be able to assist me in finding a solution and none of the posting on the chat rooms can offer any advise. I have taken my car to an Audi dealer for a computer aided diagnostic and they were unable to offer any solution. It was their advice to change the cluster (£800+) and then run another diagnostic. I believe strongly that Audi are aware of these problems but won?t admit this is a widespread problem with their cars. The garage I bought the car from (Volvo Garage) are aware of the problem but only on the TT. If I disconnect the ABS cable connection, wiggle it around a bit and with luck this gives me about twenty minutes without the warning light coming on. I need a proper solution as the car wont pass an MOT without this problem fixed. Regards, Robin.
