Powwer steering out of control

I have been installing a power steering on my 1966 Mustang 6 cly I got off ebay. When I finished and started the engine the steering wheel jumped back and forth rapidly out of control. I have found a fluid leak where the line connects to the cylinder. Could this cause it or is it in the control valve attached to the center link? Any ideas?

It will probably just sit there when you start the engine, then take off like a rocket when you touch the steering wheel? The wheel will take off in the opposite direction of the way you tried to turn the steering wheel. (you start to turn the wheel to the left and it rips out of your hand and goes right until it slams the full right stop, then rockets back to the left until it hits the full left stop and shoots back to the right again and repeats this process until the engine is shut off.)
If this is the case, you have the hoses from the control valve to the power cylinder reversed.

The fluid leak may be caused by bad oil seals inside the assembly. Loss of pressure would mean that you will have difficulty in steering or sudden loss or increase in resistance on the wheel or uneven steering. Check as well the linkages and the tie rods to be sure.

I just converted my 1967 mustang from manual steering to power assist steering. My problen is, when I had everything hooked up and started the engine, the steering wheel went nuts, back and forth, etc....

check you brackets make sure that that is tight, I am not experienced in this type of swap, that said it sounds like you might have too much pressure.. is this a factory oem pump?

How do you install a fuel pump on to a 1966 mustang with a straight 6?

Apply sealer to both sides of the gasket and position it on the pump. Hold the pump in position on the mounting surface and make sure the rocker arm is hitting the cam eccentric. Hold the pump tight against the block and install the bolts. Tighten them alternately, hook up the fuel lines and start the engine to check for leaks. Hope this helps.

How remove 1966 Ford Mustang 200 cu.in 6-cyl. crankshaft pulley

Hi,
You can remove that center bolt easily with an impact gun. It has normal threads on it. An impact gun will prove to be an affordable tool that you will use again. You can get an electric one from Harbor Freight. They make the job of removing tough bolts much easier. If the engine is in the car, you might not have enough room. You can use a ratchet and if the engine is turning, you can hold the pulley with another tool sold at Harbor Freight called a rubber strap wrench.

1966 mustang steering problem.

According to the service manual, your turn the steering wheel full left to full right a few times. As it's effectively a circulating system, the air will pump its way back into the resevior.
