What does chacoal canister do 1996 dodge ram step accelerator to floor andengine misfires

Clean MAF and Throttle Body first. Then start looking at electrics. Ideally, you need a high end scan tool to look at the raw data and freeze frame.

Engine control module (ECM).

Error Code: P1300
Description: Random Misfire
Possible Cause:
As above.

Open the hood of the Dodge Ram and locate the fuel canister located against the firewall of the vehicle. There is a yellow handle next to the canister that has a hose attached to it. Place the bucket underneath the hose and open the handle. Allow all the fuel in the canister to drain into the bucket. Remove the lid of the canister. Remove the fuel filter and place it to the side.
Install the new fuel filter o-rings onto the new filter. Use a small bit of automotive grease to help hold the o-rings in place. Slide the fuel filter into the canister.
Reinstall the lid to the fuel canister and tighten it down. Prime the fuel system before starting the motor. Turn the key to "acc" and allow the fuel pump to send fuel to the filter. Allow it to prime for 10 seconds and then try to start the Dodge Ram. Repeat step 6 if necessary. good-day !

that black box is the chacoal canister and the hose is from the evaporative sistem ...... when the car is on or the engine runing the extra gasoline cameback to the tank and make pressure on it if the hose is off or broken from the charcoal canister the . check engine light have to be on check the tip of the hose if dont fit tight or is loose will fail the smog test good luck

had this same problem on my 97 the vacume line going to the canister has a one way valve going to it mine was bad now the vents work great

Sounds like timing is off, or serious misfires.

you have a leaking intake mainifold gasket that is common on the model

Did you get the valves reset after you changed the push rod? Check that the clearances are good.

did you check to verify that you have the wires in the correct order possible distributor pick up bad
