Pull the fuel pick line from the tank ( normally fuel gauge sender unit) and check for a small crack or rusted line that is allowing the pump to suck in air. Check that all hoses are in good condition and not perished (cracked) before then pump
have you checked how much fuel pressure you are susposed to have. My jimmy requires 125 to 150 psi the fuel pump whines all the time or as it cycles. research how much fuel pressure you are susposed to have. then go on from there.
Start with the simple by replacing your fuel filter, but most likely it's going to be your fuel pump that will need to be replaced soon. It's common for the fuel pump on the Saturn's to go weak after a few years, the piston and the cylinder sleeves after a few years wear and the clearance is much grater when the pump heats up.
The extra clearance will cause the fuel pressure to drop just enough to keep the fuel injectors from working. Once the pump has cooled down enough for the piston and cylinder sleeves to create enough fuel pressure, your engine can run again.
You may get luck as mentioned to start with the simple and replace your fuel filter first, then the fuel pump if that did not help.
Thank you for using fixya and good luck
does it have three second fuel pump run when you turn key to run position/ in between you should let i rest 5 or so seconds then try it again also some of these cadilacs have oil pressure sending unit wich takes the duty of keeping fuel pressure up is fuel pressure lowering as engine quits eg. rev up some in your few seconds of running while the engine is quit momentum keeps it turning for a short time see if you r pressure maintain thru the wind down
Honda had a recall on the distributor itself they dont cover them any more. they are bad about going out i think its just the pick up that goes bad but you have to replace has a unit
You could have a bad fuel pump relay switch. The fuel pump
relay switch gets the fuel pump running in the vehicle during the start
cycle. The terms fuel pump relay and fuel pump relay switch are used
interchangeably. The fuel pump relay begins its job when the automobile
operator turns to the ignition on, but before the motor is actually
running. At that point, the fuel pump relay in some cars sends a signal
to the ignition switch, which in turn sends a signal to the fuel pump
to turn on. Others fuel pump relays have actual circuitry inside of
them that receive the ignition signal and directly signal the fuel pump
to engage.
fuel pump failure is most likely the culprit. Take it to a shop to be sure.
ign coils do not commonly just stop putting out juice but i guess there is always an exception. check your fuses and make sure a fuse just didn't decide to pop.
The infrequency and it starting after "cooling" down does indicate a fuel pump failure, since once the pump "warms" up it seizes, and when it cools down it works again. This is common, however it's not an easy/cheap repair unfortunately.
