What color is the old coolant ? Your vehicle came with Dex-Cool an you don't want to mix it with any other type . Can cause major problems , plugging up the heater core , water passages in the engine , radiator etc.... You would need to power flush the cooling system before using someother types . The Dex-cool is orange .
Well, a 50-50 solution of any good green AF is okay, unless you have the dex-cool, orange colored, GM brand type of AF... If you have that, you want to use orange again. You cannot mix dex-cool with regular green AF (like Prestone or any brand AF that is green colored). A lot of people don't like using dex-cool so they change to regular AF. But to do so, you need to flush out every trace of the dex-cool. If they get mixed, problems like sludge in the coolant may result.
dex merc ????? Dex-cool ! dex-cool antifreeze is made for GM vehicle's . mixing with any other coolant , will cause problems . Plugging up the cooling system for starters .
I guess the easy answer is, real dex cool does not mix well with other coolants. It was GM's idea of a long lasting coolant. For the past dozen years or so, companies have developed coolant that will mix with most all brands. So now you have other choices.
they say you cant mix different coolants but you can go to auto-zone etc, and buy a cheaper anti-freeze for general motors products. its a 50/50 mix for all gm cars and trucks.you can add this coolant to any brand of anti-freeze. its called universal type anti-freeze. to run a differant anti-freeze in it, you have to flush out complete engine and radiator because the dex-cool and the green stuff do not mix well and cause engine corrosion etc. dex-cool is reccomended for all chevy engines. good-day !
you can use an all make all models anti freeze, it will mix with the dex-cool but i suggest that you flush the dex-cool out of the system then refill with an all make all model anti freeze.
Most manufs. do NOT recommend mixing Dexcool[your "Orange" coolant] and the older "Green" antifreeze unless it's an emergency. They're not really made of the same chemicals, and don't 'play' well together long term inside an engine. I've seen the pre-mixed coolant for sale, claiming a "universal" mixing ability with ANY type coolant. But, if it's my wallet and MY time involved, I'd track down the right/correct coolant your engine.
if you dont see a radiator cap then the cap for your resevoir tank also serves as your radiator cap, thats where you would put your radiator cleaner and dex-cool in at. it is pressurized just like a normally radiator is with a normal radiator cap on it so dont open it when its hot! the resevoir cap should also have dex-cool stamped on it
