Hello, I have a 2004 dodge stratus coupe. This car ahs never overheated but is losing antifreeze somewhere. I have a small overflow tank that I fill every 3 days just alittle, but if my car sits for a couple days it seems empty, although there is fluid in the radiator. i have noticed that the cooling fans do not kick on when the car reaches the temperature or even at idle? I know the fans work because I turned them on low and they roar. Im just confused? Again I am not overheating and my thermostat and the hose to the radiator have just been changed? ANY help would be greatly appreciated1 thank you

I agree. Use a big piece of cardboard and put it under the engine when you park the car after driving and getting to running temp. If it leaks onto the cardboard then you have a leak. If not then have a cylinder leak down test to see if the head gasket or cylinder is leaking. Or have the test for exhaust fumes in the coolant resivoir.

On my 2003 dodge stratus se sedan 4 cyl dohc.. Car started overheating and also blows cool air when heater is on. I just changed thermostat and refilled antifreeze and iwhen tested was blowing hot air...

Did you check to see if you have water or anti freeze in the oil? You could have a blown head gasket. This would be why you are adding fluid so quickly. let me know.

Overheating dodge stratus

Do a Compression Test on the Engine and see if you have a Blown Head Gasket. Chances are that is what is causing the Overflow... Exhaust Pressure is getting into the Cooling system

2004 dodge stratus R/T with 2.7 heater blows cold air and it has coolant and new thermostat and the overflow boils over without the temp gauge being above halfway. how do you fix that?

Sorry to say but i have had plenty of experience with dodge vehicles and have ran into this problem before.....its your head gasket sucking air...(hence the bubbles in your overflow tank isnt from being hot....its the air escaping from your engine)......Plus the posiblility of your heater core being clogged....

Dodge stratus R/T 2002 antifreeze problem(antifreeze coming out the cap)

First the "service engine soon" light is a manufacturer installed reminder for you to get an oil change or other pre-determined maintenance service done. It is different than the "check engine" light which indicates a sensor malfunction. Secondly, when the engine is cold the thermostat is closed and the antifreeze or coolant is not circulating. The cooling system is a closed system and the tank that the cap is on is not an overflow tank but rather an expansion tank. This tank allows for the expanding coolant that is now hot to leave the engine coolant jackets, that won't expand, into a tank that can expand slightly. When your engine got to normal operating temp., aka.. hot, the thermostat opened allowing coolant to circulate and fill the expansion tank probably over flowing with the cap off. This is a normal operation for your car.

Trying to replace thermostat on 2004 dodge stratus. the upper rad hose comes up from the rad to the engine, the rubber rad hose meets up with a metal hose. behind the metal hose looks like the thermostat...

I wanted to change my thermostat too because I thought it was faulty. Come to find out my system was just vapor locked. TO fix it I just poured antifreeze directly into the radiator (not the overflow) and ran it with the cap off for a minute.
