Another thing it could be that the filter inside the manifold may be clogged. When giving it gas the presser forces it to move. May be hook up some gauges and watch the low side=blue and see if the gauge drops very low after awhile. It should be around 50psi at idle and the pressure side should be around 225-250psi. If you don't have any gauges they run about 30-50 dollars. Gauges will also tell if there is to much or to little r134a in the system. Use the pressures from above. Remember if the low drops very low and stays low then there is a clog. Let us know how it goes.
Sounds as if you may have a leak somewhere and your losing freon(134). advance and Carquest have a sealing kit that can be added to your system to seal leaks in the system, it comes with the hose. do not OVERCHARGE your system, as you can rupture seals, and gaskets.
