There are two ways. One involves removing the rear exhaust manifold, the other is removing the Axle. I found removing the axle was easier.
To remove the axle you first have to remove the wheel, Breaks,
Stabilizer bar Link, Tie Rod and disconnect knuck from the Lower ball joint.
I also had to disconnect the exhaust at the front flange connection.
The hard part is getting to the bolts on the alternator. Its really tight.
For one of the bolts I used a 2 1/2 foot extension.
Once you remove the alternater there's a little manipulation required to find the correct orientation to slip it through the opening.
First time I did this it took over 6 hours. Could probably now do this in 3.
I suggest visiting autozone.com and register the van there. It's free and will give you access to an online repair manual. The steps for replacing the alternator should be available there. Hope this helped and best wishes
