I started to rewire my 81 cj 258 6cyl with a universal harness, converting from elec ign to a mechanical points style ignition. Got everything hooked up under the hood and was able to get it started, then I turned it off to crimp two ignition wires together (had been just twisted) and ever since then it wont start. I'm getting power to the spark plugs and have tried replacing EVERYTHING under the hood: carb, coil, alternator, starter solonoid, distributor w cap and rotor, plug wires, voltage reg, etc. I've also pulled the covers off the front of the engine to check the timing. I cant find anything wrong and I'm at a loss! Ive tried taking it somewhere and they couldnt figure it out either but thought it was electrical. I **** at w wiring but I know I'm getting power through the ignition system and to the plugs. Thanks for any help.
I have 86 cj7 and changed the oil senser from a elec to mec now it wont start so i went back to the orginal way and still wont start what could it be help
Check this,
remove a convenient spark plug, stick it on it's wire and place where you can see it, stick you finger over the spark plug hole and have a friend crank the engine, note whether the air blast and spark are the same instant if not the distributor's out of time
SOURCE: no spark, just put in
I had the same problem with my 85 cj7 this week, I relpaced the ignition control module, plugs, wires, cap, rotor and the the coil; still had no fire to plugs. the problem turned out to be my distributor, replaced it today and she fired right up. Most likely it was the pick up module in the distributor that went bad.
SOURCE: 4 cyl. won't start,new plugs, wires,cap,etc.
a crank sensor tells the coil to fire.are you getting a signal at the coil to fire?

I ve put coil pickup' crank sensor' coil still no power to fuse block on finder' no fire to plugs ' don't here fuel pump, this is on one another one blows fuse to the firing ever time I turn the switch on

When you say you have power to the plugs, do you mean that each plug is getting a healthy orange/blue spark? If you do and the spark is happening at the correct time and you have fuel and compression, it's pretty much impossible that it won't run. Is there 12v to the coil with the key on or just when it's cranking?
did you set the points? you sound knowledgable first will it turn over, but not fire, if so I bet the distributor's out of time' send me more info please PS I don't like electronic ignitions either. Jim
