If the problem has just started, it could be a leak in the intake side of things, causing more air to enter and fool the engine into thinking the butterfly valve is open and reving the engine.

No acceleration after 45/50 mph

I would investigate a clogged fuel filter or weak fuel pump. May just not be getting enough gas to go faster....

Don't forget to check the air filter. Dirty air filter will usually cause issues at lower speeds too but can't be ruled out.

no. but a ticking IAC valve could, also if the iac driver in the pcm were bad it could cause the rpms t be too high as well
