How can I tell if my starter is bad? Tried to jump, because I thought it was my battery. Didn't work. Only hear click, click, when I try to start. Gave no warning.

It sounds that your solinoid is moving the mechanical part of the starter motor but is either not going in the ring gear deep enough or to make contact with the connections in the rear of the solinoid or your solinoid points on the inside are burned out or your earth cables to your engine might have a high resistance due to corroded connections or paint between the eye terminals and the engine block or battery.

It may be the solenoid is bad but you can have the starter tested at most auto parts shops

Blazer will not start have gas battery is fine

If I understand you right, it sounds like the starter solenoid went bad and could possibly work again when the engine cooled down. The other scenario is that the ignition switch is bad (on steering column) or the neutral safety switch located on the transmission side. A real fluke would be that the starter BOLTS CAME LOOSE AND JAMMED THE STARTER, IF THIS IS THE CASE LOOSEN STARTER BOLTS, WIGGLE STARTER THEN TIGHTEN BOLTS TO SPECS. 25268178-sbjsv11dlntqjzkc4qi5qeet-5-0.gif

My 2002 lincoln ls wont crank or start. Is it the starter?

Could be, but it could also be a bad connection at the battery, a bad starter relay, or a bad ignition switch.

My Volkswagen golf won't start tried jumping it and the lights turn on but even then doesn't start but when ever I turn the key over I hear a rapid clicking sound now my guess was a starter but when we...

I suspect you have a loose or poor connection of the battery cable or ground connection or bad cables. The rapid clicking is the starter solenoid, and it clicks because it is not getting enough current from the battery to energize and turn the starter. Make certain the battery is good, and charged, clean and tighten the battery terminals, check the cables, check the connection at ground and at the starter. I hope this helps steer you to the solution.

My 2006 chevy trailblazer 2wd 6cyl wont start. makes clicking noise, then nothing lights/radio etc work but wont start what is it

You got a jump and it ran fine? It's your battery. The lights and radio are much easier for a battery to handle than spinning a car engine. Again, if all you needed was a jump, you have a bad battery.

2005 Altima won't start, hear clicking sound coming from fuse box,key stuck in ingintion, won;t turn over, tried to jump start.

the clicking that you hear is coming from the starter relay. sounds like your ignition starter switch or ignition lock cylinder is bad.

Forester very noisy...thought maybe exhaust system...then no power...car died...alternator?

Check the timing belt first, before anything else. The noise may have been the belt slapping the belt covers.
