Camshaft position sensor failure on Saab 2003 93

I'm getting a camshaft position sensor failure code on my 2003 Saab 93 but it is running fine. Does it need to be replaced? what are consequences of not replacing (just spent 600 on a new headlight - ugh - really don't want to but the $300 sensor if its not a safety issue).

any thoughts welcome!

Replace it. there is a connection or a short in the sensor that's throwing the code. Get your Saab parts at Carquest Auto Parts, They have a WORLDPAC division for all hard to find(and easy) parts. trust me, you will save a fortune on Saab, Mercedes, Volvo and other high end parts.

Its sounds more like the crankshaft position sensor, because when it goes it will not start.

This could be related to a loose camshaft drive belt. If you have slack in the belt the camshaft will rebound on over run causing the P0340. It can also be a Crackshaft sensor problem too.(P0335) Hope this helps...

I have a 1996 saab 900S 2.3L with a check engine light obd2 code p0341 camshaft position sensor out of range. I am told this engine does not have a cam position sensor but that saab uses this code for...

I also have a saab 900 s with the 2.3 L. I started throwing the same code. I found out from the Hanes manual that the CMP sensor is integrated into the distributor on this model. Which explains why the distributor costs so much. You might want to check your distributor out and makes sure their is no oil in the cap and that the black electric plug is fit on correctly. If it's okay just watch for rough idle (that's what mine started doing), unfortunately it looks like if your cam position sensor needs to be replaced you have to replace the entire distributor.

Trouble codes p0340 and p0014 for a chevy trailblazer engine keeps either idling up real fast or trys to die

You need to check the cam phazer and see if it's damaged. Lots of the time it leaks oil into the connector and messes up the wires. Also I've seen the oil control screens come out of the phazer and go into the engine, which will also set the coeds. If I were you I'd pull the phazer out and see if all 3 of the oil control screens are there. My bet is one will be missing. Make sure to change the oil too. You may get lucky and it will have made it to the oil pan? Other wise I wouldn't worry too much about it. Most of the time it will not cause any engine problems. Good luck, oh and you do have to pull the power steering pump off to get the phazer out. But you can just take the bolts out for the pump and let it fall down so you can get the phazer out!
