Turn the key on: the instrument cluster and engine don't start

I got a mercedes A class y2000. It happens quite a lot of time now that when I turn the key the instrument cluster wont light up and the engine doesn't start. After few attempts the light is on and the engine start but happiness won't last for long because sometime when I put in reverse the instrument cluster shut off and the engine too.
Any idea??

2003 E-320 won't s'ttart with the smart key all the time. the seat won't move automatically. One of the keys would work the way it is supposed but now that one is just like the other key.'T KNOW HOW LONG...

Try changing the remote batteries first sometimes that can be the problem. If that doesn't help at all then most likely you may need to replace the remote key. Also double check the setting in the instrument cluster to make sure the easy entry option is set to steering wheel and seat. The other possibility may be if the battery in the trunk is weak. A low charge can cause problems too and you may or may not get a message on the cluster that reads consumers offline.
