How to remove the fan blade in a 1998 suburban and replace it?

The 1990 Chevrolet Suburban has the most common hook-end wiper arms. Locate and press the tab or button where the wiper blade is inserted into the hook of the wiper arm and pull wiper blade out of hook. You may have to rotate and flex the blade to make enough clearance for the hook to pass through.

Have to remove the fan blades, 4 bolts 7/16" or 10 mm, remove one of them and install a stud into the bolt hole, do this same proceedure to the next bolt and walla, you just made the job so much easier on yourself to slide the fan and clutch fan assembly on and off the vehicle.

There's normally a locking nut, I assume the locking tab has replaced that.

Give it a spray with penetrating oil (WD40) then leave it a day. It should then work loose with a bit of persuasion.

what size engine? do you mean fan blade? all of them facing vehicle will be remove turning wrench to the left side or to the right side of vehicle but you must hold pump pulley with spacial tool and turning big fan blade clutch nut to the left facing the vehicle of course

The water pump can be removed and installed without discharging the air conditioning system (if equipped).

1. Disconnect battery negative cable.
2. Drain cooling system. Refer to Cooling System-Draining and Filling.
3. Do not waste reusable coolant. If solution is clean, drain coolant into a clean container for reuse. WARNING: Constant tension hose clamps are used on most cooling system hoses. When removing or installing, use only tools designed for servicing this type of clamp, such as special clamp tool (number 6094). snap-on clamp tool (number HPC-20) may be used for larger clamps. Always wear safety glasses when servicing constant tension clamps. CAUTION: A number or letter is stamped into the tongue of constant tension clamps. If replacement is necessary, use only an original equipment clamp with matching number or letter.
4. Remove upper radiator hose clamp and hose at radiator.
5. The thermal viscous fan drive is attached (threaded) to the water pump hub shaft. Remove fan/viscous fan drive assembly from water pump by turning mounting nut counterclockwise as viewed from front. Threads on viscous fan drive: are RIGHT HAND. A Snap-On 36 MM Fan Wrench (number SP346 from Snap-On Cummins Diesel Tool Set number 2017DSP) can be used. Place a bar or screwdriver between water pump pulley bolts to prevent pulley from rotating. Do not attempt to remove fan/viscous fan drive assembly from vehicle at this time.
6. If water pump is being replaced, do not unbolt fan blade assembly from thermal viscous
7. Remove fan shroud attaching hardware (two bolts at bottom-two clips at top).
8. Remove fan shroud and fan blade/viscous fan drive assembly from vehicle as a complete unit.
9. After removing fan blade/viscous fan drive assembly, do not place thermal viscous fan drive in horizontal position. If stored horizontally, silicone fluid in viscous fan drive could drain into its bearing assembly and contaminate lubricant.
10. Do not remove water pump pulley bolts at this time.
    
11. Remove accessory drive belt as follows: The drive belt is equipped with a spring loaded automatic tensioner. Relax tension from belt by rotating tensioner clockwise (as viewed from front). When all belt tension has been relaxed, remove accessory drive belt.
12. Remove four water pump pulley-to-water pump hub bolts and remove pulley from vehicle.

could be something to do with the rad fan relay or reostat ,if fan doesnt work then ac clutch will not kick in

Remove fan shroud,belt and fan blade,drain coolant then you can remove water pump fairly easily.Also recommend replace thermostat at same time.

Ok...answer to the question about how to remove the oil cooler lines from the oil filter housing. Once you remove the oil cooler line, either upper or lower (Or both) from the radiator. By the way, I have a 98 GMC suburban 2wd 1500, I was able to just remove the fan housing and unbolt the fan by the four bolts behind the blade, this gave me the room to remove bottom half of fan shroud.
Once lines disconnected from radiator, there is a retainer clip that holds the hose into the nut that is screwed into the oil filter housing. I doused the nuts with WD40, then removed the clip with a screw driver. BE CAREFUL not to let the clips get away from you because it would be a pain to replace. Autozone does not carry nut nor clip!!!!! The hoses are held together by a clip and attached to a bracket as you follow the line toward the front of the truck.
Once clips are removed, tug on each line individually away from the nut screwed into the oil filter housing and wahlaa. Remove the nut and clean all the old teflon tape off with a steel brush and WD40. I reinserted the clip back into the nut and with the new oil line in my hand, pressed the line into the nut with the clip in place. This way you can see how the nut and clip lock the hose in place. Oh.....use teflon tape on the radiator treads as well as the oil filter housing threads. Install starting at the radiator housing. Snug the bolt (1' 1/16" socket) with the retainer clip inserted.

it unscrews there is special thin wrenches to hold pulley and remove fan it unscrews normal(counterclockwise) u can sometimes use channel lock plers you will see the pulley has two small holes there is a tool that fits in thes to hold while removing fan blade. might can get thru autozone loan a tool

it is not too bad basically the same as the earlier 350 you remove fan blade and shroud and unbolt it once you dig into it you will see it is not too bad a job
