It is partially hidden by a bundle of wires on the passenger side. Easy once you locate it.
All Subaru's are on the driver side down next to the starter.
Have yet to see a dip stick for a manuel transmission. They normally have two plugs on the side of trans. One lower and one upper. The lower is for draining, and the upper for adding/checking fluid level. Due to the fact that you must get under car to check, yet still have on level ground to get accurate reading, would sugest you take to your normall sevice provider to have this done.

The dipstick has a black plastic handle in the shape of ring of about 1 inch in diameter. It is located on the left side of the engine (looking from front) behind the spark plugs. Best visible from the passenger side fender location (start looking from the left part of the transmission , the black handle clearly stands out on the white metal).
