Do you think it is necessary I get my SRS problem (SRS light on dash is constantly on when car is turned on) looked at as soon as possible? Could it leave me with any serious consequences if left untreated?
The SRS light is for your airbags. The light means there's a fault with the airbag system. This means the airbags may not deploy in a crash, or may deploy suddenly. have it checked out right away

The SRS light is indicating it has found a problem with the air-bag system. Left unchecked, the air-bags could fail to deploy in the event of a crash.
All in all for your personal safety I would recommend you have the vehicle scanned for trouble codes. Take your car to your local Auto Zone and ask them to scan for trouble codes, they will do the scan at no charge to you. You can see what the the problem is and determine if you wish to have it fixed. I would recommend you have it fixed to prevent injury to yourself or your passengers in the event of an accident and your own safety.

Here's a quick check list
for most common cost of SRS / Air bag problem.
Dirty contacts on driver
and passenger seat belt buckles
Dirty contacts on seat belt connectors
(under seats)
Dirty contacts on driver and passenger sides weight
sensors (under seat)
Seat covers
Weight on passenger seat
(Example:
grocery package trigger SRS / Air Bag light on the way home.)
I
recommend you to pass an vacuum over the contacts and use CRC
electronic parts cleaner to rule out connectivity problem.
I DO NOT
recommend disconnecting the negative battery connector to clean the code(s).
Without the code(s) the dealer will takes "BILLABLE" time to reproduce
the problem.
