Ok so my chevy 1500 1999 extended cab 4x4 is having an on going problem with over charging then draining the battery and cooking the positive cable wires we have replaced the alternater, even though it tested twice passing and two batteries, pos. cable, relays only to find we still have the same problem going on I want to know if the pully size of the three pullys on my engine might have been exchanged and might be the wrong size now i need a proper size for all three of them or a picture to find out or if it could be a plug that sends the currents through???? I am at a loss and have spent alot of money with shops and parts only to find out that they really don t know whats going on.

Hi there,
If it isn't the alternator or the battery, it has to be elsewhere in the circuit, possibly a bad earth-connection between battery & body, body & engine, or even between alternator & engine. Ensure that where earthing cables are fastened there is no corrosion, oxide, grease or paint in-between. A good solution to use is a mix of ammonia with some sugar-soap added, (but not too strong that ammonia-smell is overpowering!), rinse with warm water dry well with compressed air or hair-dryer.
A bad earth will cause the alternator to think it needs to supply more voltage & current!
Hope this helps, Stevie-RayG

Brand new battery 4 times in last 6 months and all go dead over night. Charging system ok can not find any signs of drainage when not running.

Use a test light between the positive cable and the positive terminal on the battery, if it lights, there is a drain. The car should be off of course.

My 95 blazer 4x4 4.3 engine has a battery drainage problem when it sits all night,i had the charging system checked and it was ok.I tested all the fuse's with a tester with the key off,and more then half...

you would want to make sure everything is turned off in the truck and doors are shut. Take the positive battery cable off, connect a test light to the positive cable and the other to the battery, if there is a drain, the test light will light. Try pulling 1 fuse at a time til the test light goes out. Also have the battery tested to make sure it holds a charge.
