Check the fuse in the fuse panel under the dash. Check the brakelight bulbs and see if they are good, it is unlikely the bulbs will both blow at the same time, it pays to check them. If the fuse is good, then the brakelight switch is bad under the dash,on the brake pedal. If you haven't done these repairs before, it is very tight getting under the dash to get to the brakelight switch. You may want to take it to a shop and let them do it.
I hope this has been helpful.
Check your fuses, bulbs and make sure you have a good ground wire to the lights.
If those are good, then the brake light switch may be bad or out of adjustment.
Brake light switches are usually located on the arm of the brake pedal.
suspect a bad brake light switch,on the brake pedal itself.the key need not be on when checking the brake light switch.but requires 2 people.one to insure the brake lights come on,one to push the brake. theres a switch on the brake pedal itself. look above the brake pedal pad that you push to apply the brakes. you will see a plunger that moves in and out,just to supply the current to the brakelights.if the plungers out of sync,it will not work. or it may only be stuck.or simply bad,if it moves and brake lights do not work. if the plunger works on visual inspection,and is plugged up,the switch is suspect to be bad. thank you,for choosing fixya.com!! SIMPLE SOLUTION,CHECK THE BRAKE LIGHT FUSE. IT MAY ONLY BE BLOWN. UNDER THE DASH ON DRIVERS SIDE CLOSEST TO YOUR LEFT FOOT WHEN APPLYING BRAKES. WITH FLASHLIGHT,CHECK FOR BLOWN BRAKE LIGHT FUSE. if this fails,check for blown brakelight bulbs. unlikely that both brake light bulbs blown at once! but not unusall. thank you for choosing fixya.com!!
check the brake light fuse if thats ok check the ground for the brakelight an bulbs, if all those are ok then i suggest replacing the brake switch located just above the brake pedal
the stratus' are well known for the brakelight switch on the brake pedal going out frequently!!
so go to nearest parts house and buy a brakelight switch, that will most likely fix your problem!!
:-)
check your fuses and if their ok check your bulbs it rare but seen then both go out before.If there ok the next thing would be that the brake pedal is not seperating the distance that it should from the switch being that you have new rotors and brakes.
do the trun sigals work and have check the fuse. take a test light go to the brake light switch one side of the switch will be hot all the time the other will show power after you close the switch . stepping on the pedal close the switch. so if you have no power to the switch it will not work , check the fuse before going any fruther good luck kdc744
check for loose ground or corroded/rusted ground points;
double check the ground connection of the stereo;
double check the battery's - terminal connection to engine and to chassis body;
check/clean relay sockets normally located with the main fuses.
in some worst case scenario and considering the age of the vehicle, a rehabilitation of the wiring system might be in order.
Hope this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information. Good luck and kind regards. Thank you for using FixYa.
