I have the same problem. Fuel guage bounces from full to empty when I fill the tank up completely. Where is the sending unit located?

Hi the sending unit is located at the very top of the tank to replace this part the tank will need removing to get to the top of the tank. Once the tank is removed its easy to remove the sender unit make sure your tank is empty first as it will be really heavy and hard to manage with fuel in the tank.

I you havnt got the use of a garage ramp or pit then it can be a big job removing the tank as it would involve removing all the fuel hoses and the filler hose from the tank to allow you enough freedom to get the tank off.

Let me know how you get on or if you need further assistance ok

2004 pt cruiser gas guage showing incorrect reading

There is a trick to reset all of the gauges in your PT Cruiser. There are three simple steps to reset them.
Step 1. Hold down the "Trip" button
Step 2. While holding onto the Trip button, turn the key and start the car. (This should make all the gauges and numbers reset and run a test)
Step 3. Release the trip button and the fuel gauge should work properly.
If not, there might be a problem with your fuel pump.

How do I repair 1996 chrysler T\C fuel gauge that reads full most of the time and erratic empty with light on

Hi,, first run a test.. disconnect the gauge wires from the tank, lf the
level on the dash goes down, the problem is inthe tank, ie. The float
inside the tank is fualty...then you have to change the gauge mechanism in the tank .

Town and Country Van running out of gas and guage says half a tank what could be the problem?

If your fuel gauge is showing you in accurate readings this is normal to all vehicles that are not used to fill-up gas full regularly but sometimes the cause of the inacuracy is due to faulty float valve in the gas tank you need to replace it

Why fuel gauge not working gas guage on 2009 santa fe stays on empty even with a full tank of gas. Guage fluctuates from empty to 3/4 full to empty to 1/3 full at any given time.

It could be the sending unit in the tank or the gauge on the dash. A mechanic would test the signal coming from the sending unit to verify.

'04 Explorer xlt ...my fuel guage & check engine light stay on & my fuel guage shows empty on a full tank. two mechanics ran diagnostics and nothing registers as 'wrong'

You have a check light on--you have codes

Fuel gauge is not accurate

Need a different shop that has a data base,
so they can use reference material for your
vehicle & resolve

Did you go for a road test with the mechanic &
did they have a scanner hooked to the DLC
under the dash,if not you wasted your time with
them

Car of year 1998, when tank is full or medium from fuel, guage shows empty. When tank is completely empty, the guage shows full. Guage is of digital type with the bars. What can I do ? Any tests I...

Digital gauge also gets its input for fuel level from a float in the tank. Here the culprit can be that float because the error is systematic i.e., full on empty and empty on full/half. If the reading was erratic then it was something to do with IC in the bars display panel.

Fuel guage on a 1998 honda accord

This is not a calibration issue, the sender in the fuel tank is the problem, this is a common symtom for senders when they fail
