1996 Galant runs rough until gas pedal pressed about quarter way down, then runs fine.Car is running lean. Not sure how to check if fuel pump is working correct,or maybe MAS?

We have replaced the plugs, wires, cap, rotor and distributor. If TPS or EGR were malfunctioning, wouldn't the engine light come on?

You should have your TPS and EGR looked at as those cause rough idles...Other causes are bad idle air control valve, bad plugs, bad distributor cap & rotor, a bad wire, bad O2 sensor, etc...

Testimonial: "Thank you for your time. We have replaced the plugs, wires, rotor, cap and distributor. If TPS,EGR,o2 bad, wouldnt engine light come on?"

  • Anonymous Aug 26, 2009

I didn't realize your check engine light wasn't on sorry.. The O2, TPS and EGR should trigger the light, but not always.
When you start your car, you should hear your fuel pump priming, but there's no easy way to determine if it's working at its nominal output. One method could be to hook the pump to a special pressure sensor to see, but that requires you to drop your fuel tank and that's a big hassle. Another issue could be a clogged fuel filter or fuel injectors.

When hot will randomly not start unless gas pedal is pressed all the way down. on a 2001 honda crv. replaced fule pump, fuel relay, fuel filter, dist. cap, rotor, coil, plugs, wires, and ignition control

If you hold the pedal to the floor it puts the fuel system into Clear Flood Mode. This prevents the injectors from firing and lets the already present fuel burn out. Now if this has to be done on every short trip you probably have a leaking injector.

Does the vehicle seem to crank slowly or stop and then crank when this happens?

2000 blazer runs rough and dies when gas pedal pushed to floor.

I agree with Peter on this one. Sounds like low fuel pressure. First thing is to be sure that you have around 55-60 psi when you turn the key on and running should be around 55. If the pressure drops much below these no.'s the fuel pump may need to be changed. Don't forget to check and/or change the fuel filter also.

Car: 94 Chevy caprice, 5.7L engine/port fuel injection Problem: very hard cold starts, rough idle at cold temperatures and stalling at low idle(when able to start after minutes of continuous cranking)...

Have your temp sensor checked. It may not be setting off a code but a sign of a failing temp sensor is hard starts, rough idle, until the car heats up. It sends a code to the ECM to help adjust fuel mixture. If it sends gals readings, the computer will adjust the fuel-air ratio and cause vehicle to run too lean until warmed up. Some people have had to keep pumping the gas pedal to keep it going from a bad temp sensor.

The car in question is a 96 Nissan Sentra. After the car starts it dies out and the engine is running really loud. We got the car started by pressing the gas pedal down all the way. What do you think that...

This most probably is an issue called "drowning" by some mechanics. There is too much fuel inside your carb and not enough air that is why when you push the pedal all the way it starts. When you step on the gas more air is let through to match the fuel. Remember, do not pump the gas pedal because it also pumps more fuel into the carb even when not running, this will cause starting issues.

1996 jeep cherokee sport 4.0 L it will stall

it looks like your engine is having an over rich fuel mixture maybe, thatswhy when you press the pedal to the floor it starts becouse you allow lots of air to help clean the mixture while cranking, also you should have black smoke in the tailpipe until it cleans up and runs fine, i think youre having a leak in one our more injectors you should check them first for proper seal under pressure these is done in an injector test machine, second it may be a defective map sensor these trucks some times have a bad map and dont give a MIL (malfunction indacator lamp) and last but more rare to be is a blocked fuel pressure regulator chek fuel pressure it should be between 38 and 45 psi and it shoul hold these pressure when you turn off the engine if pressure drops fast its injector seal problems or fuel pump check

Lack of power

Start with IAC motor, TPS sensor, possible clogged catalytic converter.

Runs rough when low on fuel

Probably a leak in the flexible line that connects the pump to the metal line. Or the pump itself.
