Ford Requires a special tool to adjust headlights, you can buy from ford or Mac or snap-on tools. Car must be level and you need it to be slightly dark outside so you can see what your doing. Adjust driver head light on low beam, as you are turning adjustment screw turn the screw for raising the head light and raise the head light up or down till it is 30 feet in front of you. you can take steps and measure it this way which would be 10 steps or ten yards on a normal person that is 5.8ins tall. then adjust the side adjuster so that when looking at the head light spot on the ground it is pointing to the passenger car side about one foot away from straight on. Meaning if you were going down the highway that the light would point down and slightly to the right not on the center road painted lines. Next adjust the passenger side to where it is the same height as the driver side, then hit your high beams. it should be aimed so that the lights do not shine into on com-ming drivers eyes. If you have a garage or a building that you can get thirty feet away and the car is level it will make it easier for you to see what your adjusting. Afterwords you may have to make a minor adjustment to both lights. I like to set them so that the passenger is slightly higher and a little to the right so you can see going down the road at night an avoid or see a deer or person to the right side of the road. Some states requires that a certified light mechanic to do this so be sure you are not voilating any laws when doing this. Thanks for using fix-ya and rate if this was helpful.

When I turn off my car, the headlights stay on even after I use my fob to lock the doors. Normally they go off right away. I have found that hitting my headlight switch two times after I turn off my car,...

This is the delay feature of your vehicle.
Your car's Auto Headlight functionality offers both convenience and safety. The exit delay programmed in means that the lights will stay on after you turn off the engine for a set period of time. You can change how long they stay on to fit your needs. Here's how to do that:
  1. Make sure the headlight switch is in the Auto position.
  2. Make sure the key is set to OFF.
  3. Turn the headlight switch off.
  4. Turn the switch back to ON, then OFF again.
  5. Turn the switch back to the Auto position.
  6. Make sure the lights come on.
  7. Wait for the amount of time you want the headlights to stay on, then turn the switch back to OFF once more.
  8. The headlight delay should now be programmed.
Tips
  • The maximum delay you can set is three minutes.
  • You can set the system to have no delay by not waiting to turn the switch back to OFF the final time.

Why will the headlights not turn off when ignition is turned off?

I will fill in the blanks....you must have a newer car with auto head lights....there is a setting on the headlight switch that lets you over ride the "automatic" headlight mode....maybe you or someone accidently turned it to the manual "on" position...if so turn it back to the "auto" setting......2nd....new cars do have a delay before the headlights go out after parking your car. And if you read your manual, you would see that the time they stay on after turning your ignition key off can be set to several different time settings, including to switch off as soon as you turn the key off.
But if you had accidently turned the light switch to the "on" setting.... fear not....the headlights will automatically go off after the battery is dead....lol....actually they should go off within 2-3 minutes of turning the key off...unless you have an open door or trunk...or engine hood...or maybe even a gas cap door...and your car is telling you "something's open" by the lights staying on....Take that Jim and see if it gets you anywhere.

Where is automatic light switch on my 2004 buick rainer cxl model suv

There is no switch, they are automatic. There is a sensor mounted on the top of dashboard that senses light, which tells headlights to turn on.

Headlights stay on constantly when on auto setting

there is a sensor on the dash (topside) that detects light...if it is covered with anything, it will turn on the lights when the key is on.

If you have a brake relay for the trailer, it may connected to the wrong wire instead of the hot brake light wire, but if you have had no trouble with a factory wiring harness before, it is likely that the relay is sticking its internal contact points and only this may need to be replaced.
