Problem for Mini 2006 Cooper

Mini Cooper temperature gauge goes to red zone, fan comes on

By dennisjolive on Aug 25, 2009

My 2005 Mini Cooper convertible has 41,000 miles on it. For the PAST YEAR I have had ongoing problems with the temperature gauge zooming to the red zone, then back to normal -- bouncing around, and fan coming on. I replaced the thermostat -- problem stopped for a month, then resumed. Have taken it repeatedly to two different mechanics who say there appears to be nothing wrong with the car. Replaced the sensor -- car ran normally for three months, then problem started again. Next will replace the wiring connected to the sensor. Totally puzzled and frustrated by this problem.

If you have a new thermostat, then your temp sensor is faulty. If sensor is new, then it is the wiring to sensor or problem with the ECM
