Question about Dodge Cars & Trucks

1 Answer

.I'm working on a 2000 dodge Durango 4.7 L. I'm replacing the ignition switch. Mine has 3 places for a plug in where as the ones I am finding at the local junk yards only have two. I was wondering if the third plug in was just an accessory or if it is a security feature

Around the year 2000 Dodge started making changes to the interior trim and dashboard of the vehicle. You might need to try and find models that are from 2000 or older.

All you need to do is Remove the POSATIVE cable from the battery for about 25 seconds then reconnect it. This will reset the computer and everything else!

SOURCE: replace thermostat in 2000 durango

If you look down on the radiator, on the left side, there is a larrge hose coming out of the radiator toward the engine. Where the hose ends there is a housing with 2 bolts. The Thermostat is found under that. Remove the 2 bolts an replace the thermostat. Unles your arms are very long and thin, you will probably need to do this from under the car.
Perfect time to flush/fill all coolant. Check and replace any needed hoses/clamps.

if i am not mistaken the fuel filter is built into the fuel pump. which requires you to drop the tank and replace both.

How to replace ignition coil

The 4.7 engine differed greatly from the 5.2 and 5.9 engines Dodge made at that time.
The other two engines have only 1 ignition coil where as the 4.7 has a total of 8. With one being on each spark plug.

Stuck in 4 wheels

check to see if you linkage coming from your selector lever to your transfer case is off. i also have a 2000 durango and the little gromlets (rubber bushings) that hold the linkage bar in place were warnout and i had to replace them. mine wouldn't go into 4 low because the gromlets were worn and alowed to much slack.

I have a 2003 dodge durango and all the lights on my dash board lit up and I have no mheadlights?

A pretty common problem for the Dodge Durango is the headlight switch will get hot and actually dammage the plug on the back side. Pull the dash cover off the front and remove the switch.. 3 or 4 philips screws.. and look at the plug in and see if its melted at all. If it is.. find a salvage yard and buy yourself the switch and the harness.. you can usually find these for $25.00-$35.00

Good Luck

What is the firing order for a 2004 dodge durango

The firing order is a sequence of ignition time when the engine cylinders deliver their power-strokes starting with the number-one cylinder. If this sequence is faulty or arranged disorderly, the engine may not start at all, and if it does start, it may does so hesitatingly, or not run enough well to enable it to drive-or simply lacks the power to move. A waste of gas, and unecessary tear and wear on the engine and its critical components ultimately result. Once the firing oder is correc and in proper sequence, the engine should starts easily and promtly, running as quietly as posiible.

For Dodge 2004 Durango firing-order:
All 6-cylinder K 3.7L MFI SOHC distributorless ignition:
1-6-5-4-3-2 (front 2-4-6) (back 1-3-5)

All 8-cylinder N 4.7L SFI (including HEMI 4-WD)
1-8-4-3-6-5-7-2 (front 2.4.6.8) (back 1.3.5.7)
(distributorless ignition)
It is also a good thing to try and compare the thread lenghts of the old spark-plugs being replaced with the new.

I need to put the plug wires on the new distributor and had it apart too long (i forgot the sequence). Whats the order they go back on?

1-8-4-3-6-5-7-2. That is the firing order. Cylinders are 1-3-5-7 on the drivers side of the motor, 2-4-6-8 on the passenger side. Distributor should spin clock wise. Set it up on #1 TDC, and run the plug wires around cap off that one being #1.

2000 dodge durango 5.9 surges and stalls at all stop lights.

first check all vacuum lines especially the one behind the throttle body to make sure none of them are off also have it tested to see if one of the coil packs on the spark plugs is bad and it hasn't had a tune up in awhile now is a good time to do so fuel filter plugs coil pack on the plugs if needed and the drive belt checked
