Added Fuel Line Cleaner & now the Check Engine Light Wont Go off!
I have a 2001 Dodge Caravan 2.4L 4Cyl . The check engine light will not go off. I think I have caused this. I added a bottle of STP Complete Fuel Line cleaner. The bottle recommended that you only add a bottle when you have a tank of atleast 10 gallons or more. I stupidly added a bottle when I had about 4-5 gallons in the tank. It doesnt idle ruff anymore, instead it idles smooth. However about 20 minutes after I added it, the check engine light came on and has been on for about 2 days now. I just want to know, is it possible that I clogged a filter, or maybe a sensor because there wasnt enough gas mixture. I also wanted to know could I do serious damage by adding it when there wasnt enough gas in the tank? Third, If I fill up a whole tank does anybody think it might run itself out of the lines and the check engine light will come off them? or do you think I did serious damage? Please anyone, comments, suggestions, facts...I live in NYC and Im suppost to drive to Boston on Wednesday, I dont want to break down...Thanks in advance.
so your saying it wont break down on me I will just get slightly less gas milege right? I just did an oil change yesterday as well. I just dont want to make a 4 hour drive to boston and 4 hours back and break down. How much would you say it would effect my mileage? I get about 22-24mpg on the highway now.so your saying it wont break down on me I will just get slightly less gas milege right?

Re: Added Fuel Line Cleaner & now the Check Engine...
The cleaner won't hurt it at all at any fuel level. The light could be MANY things. Just have the codes checked and you will know what it's asking for. Driving it with the check engine light on will reduce your mileage and increase emmissions about 20%........and thats all. Enjoy your drive to Boston.

tune it up !!!! replace both AIR & FUEL FILTERS . spark plugs & plug wires, replace them !!! cap & rotor (distributor) , put fuel injector cleaner in tank, next fill up !
Dirty fuel injectors. Computer will show misfire on the cylinders that are malfunctioning. If injector cleaner in tank won't clean them, pull them all out and have a professional take them apart and cleaned. Each injector has a screen in it that can get plugged up. Think about Bro, all other stuff has been renewed.
When the engine is still cold I back out of my driveway and when I shift the transmission to Drive the engine stalls as soon as I step on the gas. It does this repeatedly until the engine warms up. There is no check engine light.
I have a 2001 Dodge Grand caravan Sport i have a misfire in cylinder 2 i changed the spark plugs, wires, coil, map sensor,COMPUTER,had it checked for vacum leaks (nothing),fuel filter.Basically I have almost redone the whole van and i still have the same problem. Can anyone suggest what else i could try! please
ok a P0303 Cylinder 3 Misfire Detected is a hard code meaning your problem is not intermetent,if you all ready changed the spark plugs and wires, the next step is to check the injector for the #3 cylinder, also if you can try using another ignition coil, check the crank position sensor and last try moving the plugs aroud to see if the code changes or if you get a new one,i dont think you will be stranded but the engine performance is crapy.
With the engine running spray come carb cleaner into the intake and see if there is a slight improvement. Then add some more cleaner into the fuel at the fuel filter. Start the engine & shuttle pump the throttle to clear all nozzles. Also check the plugs and rub it with sand paper and adjust the gap appropriately, and if its all blackish or the spark points have worn out, then change them......................sodeep
