NO RADIO TOLD OF THE 8 OFFERED DAY1 NEW, OR UPGRADED TO AFTERMARKET ENDLESS KINDS OF RADIOS
IF OEM RADIO 1 TO 8
SOME HAVE RADIO CODE (A LICENSE, OWNER SHIP CODE)
SEEM NO RADIO LOCKS ARE HERE (OEM)
SO THE ONLY RESET IS PULLING FUSE OR THE CAR BATTERY
THE GLOVE BOX GUIDE (LOST) TELLS YOU WHAT TO DO IN THAT ACT.
USERS GUIDE 203 (FREE)
If the battery has been disconnected or a new battery has been installed,
the clock and radio settings must be reset once the battery is
reconnected.

hope this helps
If it is a factory radio, you can contact a VW dealer(I think you need the VIN# also)and they will provide the code for free.Write down the code and method because anytime the battery gets disconnected that will happen and it does get disconnected for some problem checkouts other than battery or alternator.
Good luck! Greg
Yes, it could be something else, other than the converter, such as a faulty o2 sensor. Take your VW to Autozone or Advance auto, and ask them to a do a scan, to see what they come up with ( think it's free).
I had the same problem. You can call any Acura dealer and tell them you are traveling out of town and you need them to look up your radio code. I live in Cleveland, and our dealerships were closed for the day. I called California, where the time zone is 3 hours behind and told them what I told you to say, and they looked up the code and gave it to me immeditley!
"2 safe" means that your radio was in safe mode, and then the code was improperly entered 2 times. you either need to disconnect your battery and leave it for up to 4 hours (i've been told), or leave your key in the ignition for around an hour.
once it comes out of "2 safe" mode, then it will just say SAFE and give you the numbers 1-0-0-0. You just need to enter the 4 digit code (using your pre-set numbers 1-2-3-4 to change the numbers), then hold the seek > button and your radio should come on.
If you don't have the code, call VW. they'll find your code for free. they did for me. if not they'll charge like $50 or something.
