If the check engine light is NOT on, it will be a mechanical problem like a clogged air filter, fuel filter or faulty spark plugs. If your check engine light IS on, it is a sensor like the O2 or MAF for example. Best to get it diagnosed if the check engine is on to specify with sensor is causing the problem.
need to pass a scanner to see other problems that you have

The fuel filter is located inside the fuel pump on a 2005 nissan altima. The fuel pump is under the back seat. You must remove the bottom cushion on the driver side. Before removing the fuel pump you must remove the negative battery cable and relieve fuel pressure. trouble with filters hesitation in starts could be some bogging and when acceleration poor fuel output but it depends on what ur car is doing?some of these same symptoms could be duel to idle air conrol valve controls idle and hesitation in acceleration
The fuel pump, filter and regulator are located inside the fuel tank. Removal of the rear seat will gain you access to the fuel pump. The fuel pump, filter and regulator are replaced as a unit.
The accelerator is a potentiometer connected to a pedel and the wires go directly to the ECM. If the AWU( accelerator Working Unit) was bad the engine would run constant at 1800-200 rpm. Do any codes come up? I will do some more research and repost.
There are many possible causes for this kind of problem.
1. Clogged fuel filter - just change your fuel filter 2. Dirty air filter - replace it or just clean it with compressed air 3. faulty throttle position sensor - this will be the extreme case but usually its just the fuel filter or air filter. 4. Used up fuel pump - its also possible that you fuel pump has given up 5. Bad spark plugs - check the spark plugs, see if they are still okay
