Yes it is possible to find out trim level from VIN number.Call your local Dodge or Jeep dealer and give them the VIN number and they should be able to provide the information.

You need to either go buy a new thermostat, (because as always 3 out of 5 are bad off the shelf) so try a different one.
Also you can try bypassing your heater core see if it happens again. if it doesn't it's your heater core...other wise your radiator may be bad too... Try the thermostat first though. Good luck,.
Look for the dipstick where you check the transmision fluid level. If you need any you pour it down the dipstick hole. Add it in small amounts and check in between additions, its really easy to overfill. Once overfilled a real pain to get it out.

pull the inner trim panel from the inside to access the lock rods then you will be able to open the hatch by hand. I had one with the same problem a few years ago so I dont rember exactly what I did to make it work again, but it was a fairly simple alignment of the rods or the lever inside.
