I have a87 bonneville that the service engine light came on. after i shut the car down it wont restart

    need more info, have you tried jumping? does the car make any sounds? do any lights come on when you turn key? does anything happen? is battery charged? does car turn over but not start? ???

Check the computer error codes. Then check the charging system and battery. It could be a bad alternator and dead battery. If the charging system checks out and you have no spark, it could be a bad distributor cap and rotor, coil or ignition module. If the car was overheating, or had low oil level or low oil pressure and you kept driving it, the engine might be seized.

I have a 2000 Bonneville - I had a problem with the car stalling out - then it did not want to start back up. (When it did it would idle up and down and then die) I changed out the mass air flow sensor - now I have not had a problem. Good luck with it.

sometimes if you do not put your gas cap on and not tight , this may cause your service engine light to go on. Make sure its tight and the service engine light will shut off.

Car shutting off
