Is there any permanent battery wiring that I can tap into around the centre console area that isn't too difficult to get to. It's for a hands free car kit.
The cigarette lighter is not permanent battery power. It is ignition power. I need permanent - such as brake lights (brake light wiring is inaccessable)The cigarette lighter is not permanent battery power. It is ignition power. Hi there are a few different modules for the microphone and where it is placed, normally the hands free microphone is in the section near the rear view mirror, other locations are in the centre console, and left hand side of radio hope this helps
Starter is held in with two bolts. After disconnecting the negative cable on the battery, remove the two bolts retaning the starter. If starter is stuck, apply rust penetrant around the area where starter mates with trans. Try to remove by hand after soaking for two hours. If still stuck, get a two by four and lightly tap the starter to help loosen it from the trans.
Right hand drive model isn't so easy ! 2008 model :-
remove centre panel behind radio (unclips) remove glove box lid and panel and then inner glovebox (unscrews and unclips) carefully unplug five wiring multiplugs from glove box etc.
undo and lower down fuse box, unclip all wiring multiplugs from top of fusebox, remove fusebox bracket from bulkhead (2 x 13mm nuts) push fusebox down out of the way.
pull carpet away from side of centre console and remove two small (7mm head) black self tapping bolts from cabin/pollen filter cover and slide out filter.
Reverse process to rebuild !
To replace the console is fairly easy BUT it is time consuming. Assume this is going to take you all day to do.
Remove both front seats. They will possibly be Torx head bolts so you will need a matching socket. Don't use a standard socket as it will chew the bolt head. Disconnect the wiring under the seat for power or heat features. Once the seats are out the middle section should lift free. The dash section is bolted in place to the underside of the dash. Removal is centre first, dash second. Refitting is the other way round.
common with aluminun rims seized on hub
clean hub surface apply pen oil take heavy hammer (sledged)
hit outer edged of tire from outside while rotating wheel if possible
if all lugs are off it will come free sometimes needs persuasion
The 405 is renowned for having the heater matrix go bad and often it springs a leak woth an associated slooshing sound. Heater matrix is like a mini radiator which is fed by water from the engine and is located behind the dash.
It is located on the lower left hand side of the dashboard. If you look under the glove box and in towards the direction of the centre of the car you will just about see it. Check the area around passenger floor and closest to the centre console for any dampness on the carpet or signs of leaking. If this is evident you have found your problem.
One solution is replacement from breakers though companies can be found who specialise in radiator repair and if you can find one in your area this is an even better solution.
Slooshing water noise like you describe is sometimes associated with impending head gasket failure but I would check your carpets first for dampness and eliminate the heater matrix first owing to it being a known failure point on the 405.
Hi firstly when you try to start the car do the lights dim then, when you release the key they go bright again,
If they do your starter is either stuck or the solenoid on the top of it has packed up.
Firstly look around the bottom area of the engine where it joins to the gearbox.
The starter should look like a long tubed shaped unit with at least a few heavy wires coming from it (the same as attached to the battery.
Once you have found it tap it with something non metal so as not to short it out but free it.
Try the starter again to see has that made it work.
Either way if it goes or does not go you will need to get the starter repairer by a car starter repair chap or get a good second hand one from a breakers yard off the same model as yours.
Make sure before the starter is removed that the battery is disconnected so as to avoid the battery being shorted when the wires are removed from the starter.
