If the engine has a rough idle you know you have a miss-fire or other problem with one or more cylinders. When you shift into overdrive the engine is working harder than in normal drive because of the lower torque/RPM. So any slight miss under normal conditions will be magnified in overdrive or with the ac on. See if you can nail down the cause for the rough idle.
you may not have trans problem at all. most of the time your motor mounts when worn out or broken can cause a hard ****. Put your car into gear with your foot on the brake and give some gas abrubtly and see if your engine jumps. do the same in reverse. remember to use the brake and have your hood open to see if your motor jumps.
all of the shifting solenoids are in side the tranny, by the sounds of if you might be able to try a service on the tranny, new filter and fluid might help alot. try that first before spending alot of money.
Sounds like you have a severe vacuum leak. Poor vacuum will cause the trans to shift hard, very hard, and will also cause driveability concerns. Check all of your vacuum lines make sure they are intact, and not broken or leaking, and replace any that look questionable.
thottle positioning sensor? if trans has overdrive could be a lock up piece, dont remember name of it. there is a lucas oil product that might help. if it is the overdrive.
