Groan.....gunna need a bit more info. but i'll try. What portion of the ignition was ripped out? The tumbler + switch? If so, you might need to get the car's system resent to recognize that it has a new ignition put in. Sime vehicles have a theft prevention system in place to prevent the vehicle from running if its been hot wired. Your best bet would be to replace the damaged ignition components (You did not mention if you did or not). If it still doesn't work after you have replced all of the ignition components. You can try to reset the vehicle (doesn't work on all) disconnect negative battery terminal and go back into vehicle and press down the brake pedal for about 30 seconds then reconnect battery and try it....good luck, hope this helps

You may have to reporgram your ignition. Place key in ignition If you have two keys:

- Insert the first programmed ignition key into the ignition lock cylinder and turn the ignition switch from OFF to RUN (maintain the ignition switch in RUN for three seconds, but no more than ten seconds).
-Turn the ignition switch to OFF and remove the first coded key from the ignition lock cylinder.
-Within 10 seconds of turning the ignition switch to OFF, insert the second programmed ignition key into the ignition lock cylinder and turn the ignition switch from OFF to RUN (maintain the ignition switch in RUN for 3 seconds, but no more than 10 seconds).
-Turn the ignition switch to OFF and remove the second coded key from the ignition lock cylinder.
-Within 20 seconds of turning the ignition lock cylinder to OFF, insert the unprogrammed ignition key (new key/valet key) into the ignition and turn the ignition switch from OFF to RUN (maintain the ignition switch in RUN for 3 seconds). This step will program your new key to a coded key.
-If it is desired to program additional key(s), wait 30 seconds and then repeat the key programming procedure from Step 1.
-If the programming of the new key is successful, the new coded key(s) will start the engine and the theft indicator will illuminate for 3 seconds and then go out.
-If the programming of the key was not successful, the new coded key(s) will not start the engine and the theft indicator will flash rapidly on and off. REPEAT Steps 1 through Step 5.

I have a 2002 Impala that starts and runs fine but the Security Light keeps flashing. Is there any way to turn it off and eliminate it?

If that keeps up for long, the vehicle will eventually go into thinking the car is being stolen so-to-speak, and not start. The ignition key switch has a security type chip in it and needs to be replaced. You can take it to either a dealership to have it repaired or your favorite repair shop that has such capabilities as replacing it and reprogramming itfor you. I hope this gets you headed in the right direction. Jesus loves you, John 3:16-17 (KJV)

Flashing security light, engine won't start

The security, antitheft, or passlock light is a visual indication that something in the car's antitheft system is failing. In most GM cars and trucks there is a hidden system that most people are unaware even exists. From the moment you put your key in the ignition, there begins a constant line of communication between your key's security chip or transponder, to the ignition's lock cylinder, and then to the car's TDM (Theft Deterrent Module). These 3 parts are in CONSTANT communication. If the key is in the ignition, then these parts are sending signals to each other. The security light illuminates when that signal gets broken, even just for a second. When the signal breaks, the car misinterperates this as an attempt at theft and goes into antitheft mode. The car thinks its being stolen or hotwired because it is not getting that signal from YOUR specific key. This is why the security light turns on and shuts down your vehicle.

Security light

Unfortunately this a pretty common problem on GM cars and trucks. Here is a simple breakdown of what is happening.

2003 alero steering won't lock and nothing happens when you turn the key in the ignition

If the security light keeps flashing, you might as well do a reset.
Be sure to turn off all the accesories including the radio before you start the process.
Insert the key to the ignition switch and turn the key to ON position without starting the car.
leave it ON until the flashing light (security) stops. It will take approximately 15 to 20 minutes.
As soon the flashing stop, turn the key to OFF
position and start the cart.
Hope this help.

When I try to start car, it won't start and security light blinks. I'v e had to ignition switches put on before and I had a new key made. Car still won,t start.

If any of the gauges are blinking and going haywire and the security light flashing then the instument cluster is faulty. But if it is just the security light flashing then its in the switch. If you only had the switch replaced then you need a new ignition lock cylinder because its worn out.

2002 pontiac gran prix will start for about 5 seconds and security light flashes and car shuts off . I had a different problem last week, it just seemed to start when it wanted to and would be good for...

usually if there is a security problem on the car , it has to do with the ignition cylinder being that is where the passlock is located . the module has to see a certain resistance when the key is turned to varify that the key is being used rather then someone breaking the cylinder apart when being stolen. Try when the security light is flashing , to leave the key in the on position for 10 minutes to see if the security light stops flashing ,make sure you battery is good , if this works , when the light stops flashing , the vehicle should start. if it does then replace the ignition cylinder and reprogram the module.
