Is it auto or manual? either way there are rods connected the the shifter with go to the transmission. If these are intact and they are moving the transmission gear selector its internal. If not just replace the linkages or bolts whichever is broken.

2005 Hyundai xg350 wouldn't start now shift stuck in park

It is your Inhibitor switch aka Neutral Switch. It is located on your transmission. Even though you do not have an engine light on, the code is pending. You can have code pulled at auto parts store. Part is $50, easy to install. In the mean time, pop the little cover by the shifter, that says Shift Lock Release, then put a flat head screw driver in there and push UP, move shifter to Neutral, then start.

2001 Ford ex xplorer sport trac. Transmission is in drive even when in park, reverse, neutral or drive

Is it a floor shift or column? The simplest explanation would be that the lever from the shifter is not connected to the transmission. If it is shifted with a cable from the shifter going to the transmission make sure the cable is still attached to the transmission and shifter. You need to get under the vehicle and have someone operate the shifter while you inspect it and make sure it is moving the lever on the transmission. It is apparent the transmission is stuck in drive mode and the lever or cable changing modes is not connected either at the shifter or transmission.

1997 saturn s1 manual, driving shifted from 3rd to 2nd gear released the clutch pedal and the car barely moves even with the accelerator all the way down.

My first thought is that you have a broken shift cable. Your car has a transversely mounted engine and transmission. The transmission is operated by 2 cables that run from the shifter to the back of the transmission. A broken cable, or one that has come loose will prevent the transmission from shifting gears. Your problem is either at the transmission or under the console at the shifter. The first thing I would tell you to do is have one person be under the car (with the car off) while you or someone else move the shifter around. Look for movement at the transmission side of the linkage ( 2 levers located at the rear divers side of the engine) If there is no movement, you need to remove the console and gain access to where the cables attach to the shifter itself. Most likely you have a failed cable.

Elantra won't start and moves when it's in park

I'm going to say something happened to the cable between the shifter and the transmission. There is a switch on the transmission that prevents you from starting the engine in anything other than park or neutral. The transmission is probably in reverse or drive which would allow it to roll.
Someone would need to check the lever on the trans where the shift cable is attached.

I am able to move the gear shift, but the vehicle stays stuck in reverse. When I put the gear shift in R, Drive or any other gear the car does not move or even sound like its ingaging anything.

Maybe the shifter cable. I would look under the car on the drivers side of the transmission, with the wheels blocked, have someone operator the gear shifter and see if it is moving the shift lever on the transmission.

Same as above. Shifter moves but stays in park!!

Likely the shift cable has broken or become disconnected. Move the shifter and watch the control arm on the transmission to see if it moves. If not, check/ replace the cable.

2006 Altima doesn't shift into reverse

The problem that I could see is the transmission/shift solenoid. The solenoid thing is located inside the transmission. The repair should run $200-$250 or there abouts. If you don't fix it quickly though, you will wreck the transmission and you don't want to know how much that costs!

You may also contact the manufacturer for second opinion.

Hope this helps and have a great evening!
