I lost the key to my 2000 mustang convertible. V6 auto trans. Does anyone know if I can use the old drill and screwdriver method to start it? or does the key have one of those chips that will disable the car. If it does have one of those chips, is there anyway to get round it? I don't hav the money to have it rekeyed
I Had The Same Problem... In The Same Year Car except i have a manual trans. and a correction the the post below me the keys do have a chip.. i recently went and took my original key and had it copied (as a spare) .. and went to try the new key out and it would turn the cars electronics on but wouldnt crank the car. ford later told me the keys are programmed... jus so u have to go to the dealer and spend more money to get a new key
No chip but you will do more damage with the drill have a new key made at dealer or locksmith

You should be able to go to the dealer with your owners card and drivers license to the ford dealer and they should be able to make you a key from the vin code. The reasone for the ID is anyone could go with your vin and get a key made so they require this.
