Most likely that brick pinched a wire to the fuel pump. You'll have to get under it and fix that wire that's broken. Something JUST hitting the tank does nothing to anything but maybe a dent or ding in the tank. The brick had to have hit a wire.

SOURCE: why do i have to hit the fuel tank to get my car to start

Did you install a new or used pump? If used then get rid of it and install a new one. If you installed new one then you may have a bad connection in the wiring, which means you will have to double-check your work. As a mechanic with over 30 years experience nothing is so humbling as finding out that you missed something.

Vt commodore wont start every now and again without i get underneath and tap the fuel tank I put another fuel pump and filter in and its still not starting unless i tap the fuel tank motor turns over but...

Hi Walter I'm assuming you fitted a new pump and filter, If it appears to start after hitting the tank yes I also would suspect it to be a faulty pump, however if fault is still apparent I would be looking at a possible wiring/ connector fault. Possible corroded or loose terminal where it connects in any area around fuel tank as it appears any vibration when you hit the tank has an effect on a connection. The only other possible is you have some contaminant in the fuel tank possibly water or similar that is affecting the pump. Did you check or clean out the tank before fitting the pump. Also confirm its not a relay problem. Relay in fuse box under bonnet. Good luck.

Car wont start after driveing

Next time this happens go under the car with a hammer and hit the center bottom of tank and try to start it, if it starts you have a defective electric fuel pump inside the fuel tank.

SINGLE MOM CAR WONT START!!!I DON"T HAVE TIME 4 THIS!!!!

so you turn the key and the starter does nothing... i would suggest that you attempt to start it while someone hits the starter with a hammer... not that gently but don't break the starter either.

If it suddenly turns over you need a new starter. and right away because using a hammer only works a few times.

Incidentally it was minus 20 here last nite lol

95 sedan deville wont start and says fuel low with gas in tank

I'd start by tracing the fuel supply and return lines from the gas tank to the engine compartment. Make sure that they are free of kinks or other damage.

Next, check the fuse box and make sure there is power to the fuel pump. Trace the electrical connections leaving the fuel tank and make sure they weren't torn or otherwise damaged by the tire tread.

Hope this helps and good luck!
